Dust off those Keyblades! Since it was first revealed, news on Kingdom Hearts IV has been nearly non-existent. But thanks to the Nintendo Direct showcase, we now have a brand new look at the upcoming title!
What was in the trailer?
The trailer offered us a new look at what fans can expect with Sora’s sudden appearance in the new world, Quadratum. We see Sora fighting the Heartless in the streets of Quadratum, using new abilities, one of which seems very similar to Vanitas’s move of surfing on a bunch of Keyblades. We also see Sora using a new Keyblade with a fire and water motif to it, as well. This Keyblade has sparked speculation at 2 different potential worlds that this Keyblade comes from, namely Elemental and Moana.
We catch quick glimpses of characters, some who may have come from the mobile games, though it is currently speculation at this point. Former Organization XIII member Luxord will appear in the game, along with Young Xehanort, who we see offer an umbrella to Sora in the rain. Whether these two will serve as enemies once more or will be newfound allies remains unknown. Other characters known to return are Donald, Goofy, Mickey and Strelitzia, though it is safe to assume Riku, Kairi and Yozora will be back as well. There are also no confirmed worlds as of yet, aside from Quadratum and Scala ad Caelum.
More About Kingdom Hearts IV
Kingdom Hearts IV will feature a scrap-and-build gameplay system that allows players to enhance and modify their Keyblades, which offers new ways to fight enemies. Quadratum will serve as a hub world of sorts for Sora, and presumably, the allies he will make there.
While no release window was given, Kingdom Hearts IV is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
