Live from Tokyo, Japan, on May 23rd, Crunchyroll hosted the 2026 Anime Awards! Decked out on the orange carpet, fans from around the world voted in to decide which of their favorite nominated anime would take home an award.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle was a major knockout this award season, taking home 7 awards for Film of the Year, Best Anime Score and Best Anime Voice Artist Performance in the Brazilian Portuguese, Castilian Spanish, English, German and Latin Spanish categories.
During its 2025 release in theaters, the film smashed box offices and broke multiple records throughout its theatrical run, including becoming the highest-grossing film on its Japanese opening day. The final season of My Hero Academia also got its flowers with the anime winning 4 awards for Anime of the Year, Best Anime Supporting Character with Katsuki Bakugo, Best Anime Ending Sequence and the Best Anime Voice Artist in the French category.
More Winners at Crunchyroll's Anime Awards
Newcomer anime Gachiakuta also had three awards for Best New Series, Best Character Design and Best Background Art. Despite the bleak plot, mangaka Kei Urana’s story about an orphaned boy named Rudo navigating the dystopian trash-filled wastelands after being framed for murder seems to be on the rise in popularity. Chainsaw Man fans came through to support with Iris Out winning Best Anime Song and Best Anime Voice Artist Performance in the Italian category. Although this list of nominees and winners seems short, it’s refreshing to see many anime get the recognition they deserve.
From voice actors putting in tireless hours perfecting these characters to animators who work endlessly to deliver stunning visuals, especially in the wake of AI, it’s an encouraging reminder to continue creating and following your passions.
