Warning: Mentions of death, violence and weapons. Spoilers ahead as well.
It’s time to put away the coloring books and get out your bulletproof aprons because it’s time to play Kindergarten Wars, a quick rundown of those who are still standing after Volumes 1 and 2. Each character so far has a sketchy past, even for some who had hopscotched their way back to haunt them. Apologies to all the hopeful contenders and killers out there who’ve had their moments to shine; unfortunately, they did not even make it to recess.
Rita
Rita, a natural-born killer with lightning-fast reflexes, excels in hand-to-hand combat and swordfighting techniques. Her weapon of choice is the standard-issue 9mm Beretta, which is quite versatile and goes hand in hand with her close-quarters fighting style. The only thing Rita is not proficient at is landing a date, expressing her desire to have a boyfriend before she gets too old.
Doug
Doug is a notorious con artist, swindler and all-around the most untrustworthy person you could ever meet. Stemming from the mean streets of poverty, he became a natural-born survivor. Trusting no one, he’s proficient in pickpocketing, lockpicking, and being charismatically persuasive. Demeanor may be charming and sometimes childish, but don’t let that fool you; otherwise, it might leave you robbed, both of your valuables or a broken heart.
Hana Bradley
Hana Bradley is the youngest daughter of the Bradley family of assassins. This unfortunate soul has had a weapon placed in her hands since the day she was born. Always being pushed to the limit to uphold her family’s legacy of contract killing, only to end up being an embarrassment to her father, primarily due to her unwillingness to be part of such a horrid upbringing. She takes the familial belittling to heart, becoming adept towards bats and grenades as her weapons of choice; If her own family views her as a failure, might as well make the contracts she carries out loud and messy. Her only saving grace is her older brother, Shaw. With her brother held prisoner by her father, Hana is left with no choice but to rescue him by taking on the most difficult contract of her life: Kill “The Witch”.
Principal Erina
Principal Erina is an “old soldier” who oversees Kindergarten Noir and its convicts. With her calming demeanor, one would mistake her for a motherly figure. The reality is, she’s just as ruthless as the prisoners she manages. She’s not against the prisons having their own special interests, such as Rita for wanting a boyfriend, but has made it clear she will stop them dead if they choose themselves over their duties as school teachers/bodyguards for the children.
Luke Smith
Luke Smith, formerly an ex-cop for killing his boss, is now a teacher in the Chrysanthemum class. Being an ex-cop, his weapon of choice is a standard-issue magnum. His tepid disposition is matched only by his cold, analytical observations that can cut you down to size. His first impressions of Rita, Doug and Hana show just how much this guy is someone you don’t want to mess with. However, with his love of shoujo manga, he can’t really be all bad.
Gordon Z. Sky
Gordon Z. Sky, the vice principal and school nurse, but an all-around gentle giant. The safety and well-being of the occupants of Kindergarten Noir come first, so if anyone is hurt, they’re going to get treated by him whether they want to or not. He has a camaraderie relationship with Principal Erina, even down to a first-name basis, and is highly proficient with an axe, which would kind of be on par with his surgical skills. Just don’t challenge him to an axe-throwing competition.
Natasha
Natasha loves to play with her toys. So much so that, as an elite hitman, she developed a sort of game with her targets. Something about the thrill of the hunt, she prefers to chase her prey down until she catches up with them. Once her toys “break”, she tosses them in the trash and searches for another—her weapons of choice: Knives, blades and swords. Anything sharp, she loves to make her hunt up close and personal. Finding out that Rita “The Witch” is not a myth, and is residing in kindergarten school, Natasha bolts to Japan in search of her new toy to play with.
