This new take on the Pokémon anime follows two protagonists: The ecstatic Liko holding onto a mysterious pendant, and the upbeat Roy who owns a strange Pokéball. Neither of them know the history behind their artifacts, but both are excited to delve into a new world full of Pokémon they’ve never seen. Follow these trainers on land, across the sea, and flying in the sky as researchers aim to hunt them down for their treasures, pilots take them soaring to new heights, and friendly Pokémon such as Sprigatito and Fuecoco partner up with them to find out what the world of these goofy pocket monsters has to offer.

Initially teased at the Pokémon Presents presentation on August 8th, this anime is based off of the Paldea region seen in the games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (2022). Featuring Kanto locations seen in the expansion Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero (2023), the anime seems to be an almost inter-regional escapade. Especially after fans had to say goodbye to the dearly beloved Ash Ketchum on September 8th, there weren’t many hints as to where the anime would go next. With the announcement of Pokémon Horizons coming next year, trainers finally know where the Pokémon company is taking their next child prodigies.

Pokémon Horizons Release Date & Platforms

As announced at the end of the trailer, this new series will debut on February 23rd, 2024. Netflix is shown to be the main streaming platform to reach this series for fans in the U.S., since they own much of the franchise’s previous work already.

Yet Netflix is not the only location the upcoming series will be available. The series will be available on Cartoon Network and Télétoon on March 2nd for Canadian viewers, and 9Go! On February 27th for Australian fans.

Also teased across social platforms was another, smaller series airing alongside Pokémon Horizons.  A lineup of shorts centered around the legendary Pokémon Terapagos from the Indigo Disk Expansion of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, with three parts to air from December 1st to December 15th following the episode’s ending credits each week.

Look out for the amazing voice cast behind the English dub as well, featuring Alejandra Reynoso as Liko, Anjali Kunapaneni as Roy, Kira Buckland as Liko’s Sprigatito, and Zeno Robinson as Roy’s Fuecoco. Also keep an eye out for some of the more interesting side characters, including Friede played by Crispin Freeman, and the trusty Captain Pikachu played by Ikue Ōtani. From the creative minds of Saori Den and Daiki Tomiyasu who have a history in the Pokémon The Series: Sun & Moon anime, there is a lot to be excited about.
