Trailer
The newest trailer shows apothecary Maomao heading to the Pleasure District. While there, she is served locusts as a snack and discovers a looming calamity: A famine. Jinshi, from the Imperial Palace, warns Maomao about “a girl of an immortal maiden.” The trailer teases this new female character with white hair and red eyes, presumably behind the upcoming disaster. Upon hearing a rumor in the district of a poor harvest, Maomao is determined to unravel the mystery.
Check out the trailer below, featuring the ending song “Kumo o Nuke Kazashimo e Watashi dake” (“Breaking Through the Clouds, Downwind, It’s Just Me”):
Japanese voice actor Reina Ueda (Reze, Chainsaw Man; Kanao, Demon Slayer) will portray this mysterious woman, whose name has not yet been revealed.
About The Apothecary Diaries
A blend of imperial palace history, medical science, and mystery, The Apothecary Diaries follows Maomao, a medicine expert and poison-obsessed young woman. One day, she is kidnapped and sold into servitude to the inner palace. Intending to keep a low profile, she reluctantly helps the Imperial Consorts and their children upon hearing about a “curse.” She uses her medical knowledge and built-up poison tolerance to serve as a food-taster, but finds herself mixed in political troubles.
The first season focuses on Maomao’s life in the inner palace, while the second season focuses more on deeper politics and larger conspiracies. The third season will focus on an impending famine within the Pleasure District.
The Apothecary Diaries‘ first two seasons can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
