A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well, it’s also minigame worthy! Set to release next week on May 28, Pictonico!, the latest game from Nintendo, turns photos from your device into minigame!
Pictonico! connects to users’ photo albums and turns photos into different minigames, with 80 minigames available upon release. Not only that, but users can also take a photo right in the app, and it’ll immediately turn into a game.
From clearing stages to tackling Score Attack challenges, Pictonico! has a wide array of minigames to choose from. The app will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for free, but will require in-game purchases for some mini-games.Â

Reliving the Past Through Pictonico!
Although the game has yet to be released, many Nintendo fans have pointed out Pictonico!’s similarity to the 2003 game WarioWare and the 2011 game Face Raiders. WarioWare followed Wario in numerous microgames, which lasted three to five seconds each, similar to Pictonico!’s minigames. Additionally, both Pictonico! and WarioWare were developed by Intelligent Systems.
On the other end, Face Raiders was a single-player shooter in an augmented-reality style, available on the Nintendo 3DS. Face Raiders required you to take photos of yourself or someone around you, before numerous flying enemies of that person would appear. You would then have to take them down as they spawned around you. The photo requirements of people in each game makes Pictonico! reminiscent of Face Raiders,Â
Aside from the “welcome back WarioWare” and “welcome back Face Raiders” comments, Nintendo lovers seem optimistic about the game. Many users on X (formerly Twitter) responded to Nintendo’s announcement post, happy to see the company expand more into mobile games, even if it is in such a silly manner.
Nintendo’s Year So Far
With Pokémon Pokopia’s success since its March release date and Super Mario Galaxy Movie being a hit in theaters in April, Nintendo has had an incredible start to 2026. Pictonico! is set to continue Nintendo’s great year by expanding its mobile game catalog and allowing families to enjoy games together anywhere, anytime.
