From sealing the Honmoon to becoming global superstars, Kpop Demon Hunters have racked up awards in the wake of their popularity. The film has won two Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture (Animated) and Best Song for “Golden,” alongside a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media for ‘Golden.’ And now the film has two Oscar wins under its belt! Kpop Demon Hunters has won the 2026 Oscar for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for ‘Golden.’
Director Maggi Kang accepted the award for the Oscar wins alongside her co-director Chris Appelhans, citing how big a win this was for Korean representation.
"Thank you, thank you to the academy and to all the fans who got us here, and for those of you who look like me, I am so sorry that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this," she said. "But it is here. And that means that the next generations don't have to go longing. This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere."

The now Oscar Award-winning film cites a huge milestone for the South Korean community. Alongside Maggie Kang being the first South Korean filmmaker to win an Oscar, the song Golden also gave several South Korean writers a major win as well. Co-director Chris Appelhans encouraged all creators in his speech, urging them to continue to create and put their work out there.
"Music and stories have this power to connect us as humans across cultures and borders, so I just want to take a moment to say to all the young filmmakers, artists, musicians in all corners of the globe, tell your story, sing in your voice.”

KPop Demon Hunters follows pop band Huntrix members Zoey, Rumi and Mira as they navigate being worldwide sensations by day and demon hunters by night. Through the power of song, the girls fight to protect their fans and seal the mystical HonMoon from the demon realm.
