K-POP Demon Hunters Review

Debuting on June 20th and taking the world by storm, K-Pop Demon Hunters has seemingly charmed audiences overnight. With its catchy songs and flashy animation, the movie seems to bring everything to the table. Here is the review of K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Slight Spoilers are mentioned in this review.

The movie follows the band Huntrix; a famous K-pop band who navigate writing top of the line hits while also protecting their fans from the demons that want to steal their energy and souls. Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho), Mira (voiced by May Hong), and Zoey (voiced by Ji-young Yoo) have been tasked with driving the demons back using the power of song to defeat Gwi-Ma (voiced by Lee Byung-hun). However, when a demon band known as the Saja Boys show up to take their fans away, the girls have their worlds flipped upside down as exposed secrets threaten to tear apart their fans, their friendship, and, most importantly, themselves.

As someone who is not the biggest K-pop fan, I found myself pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the music in this movie. The songs fit the Huntrix girls style and personalities and I also found myself in love with the voice acting. The voice actors fit their characters impeccably well; from Mira’s somewhat monotone and sarcastic tone to Zoey’s upbeat and energetic positivity, every character’s emotion was shown in their tone and facial expressions.

Additionally, I found myself enjoying the fight scenes and wishing there were more of them. However, I did find the plot of the movie to be a little too predictable. Also, I found myself desperately wishing we got a bit more of a personality from the Huntrix girls. While I did enjoy them all, it seems as if they felt condensed to one personality; Zoey was the upbeat and quirky one, Mira the sarcastic one and Rumi the leader. It made me want to know more about them; how did Huntrix form as a band? Who was Rumi’s father?
