The nominees for the 2026 98th Academy Awards have been announced, and a familiar demon-hunting band joins the fray. KPop Demon Hunters have been nominated for Animated Feature Film and Original Song for their smash hit ‘Golden.’ This isn’t the first major award for the Netflix hit, with the movie winning the 2026 Golden Globe for Best Animated Motion Picture and Best Original Song for Golden just a week prior. Disney’s Zootopia 2 and Elio join the nominee list for Animated Feature Film in company with Arco and Little Amélie or the Character of Rain.
Along with the Oscar nominations, the Grammys seem to loom for the movie’s future. KPop Demon Hunters has been nominated for Song of the Year for Golden, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Song Written for Visual Media for Golden.
Movies We’re Missing
While KPop Demon Hunters seems destined to sweep the award season, many anime fans are noticing two films missing from the Oscar nominee list. Chainsaw Man Reze Arc and Demon Slayer Infinity Castle, while previously eligible with 35 other films, were not chosen. Even so, that doesn’t diminish the impact of both films. Recently, Chainsaw Man Reze Arc has become the highest-rated film on Letterboxd. And during its run in theaters, Demon Slayer Infinity Castle broke multiple box office records.
While every film sadly cannot be nominated for awards, to see the overwhelming positive reception of these films is extraordinary. The success of films like KPop Demon Hunters and Demon Slayer Infinity Castle proves not only to any aspiring artist or creator that their dreams are still obtainable, but to the critics and companies that people still want to see animated films. Hopefully, with the continuing prosperity that these films provide in the uprising of AI content, it can prove to people that the arts created by humans for humans triumph over all.
The 2026 98th Academy Awards are set to be held on March 15th, 2026, in Los Angeles, California, at the Dolby Theater. The 2026 Grammys will be held on Sunday, February 1st, 2026. Until the award shows, Kpop Demon Hunters is available to watch on Netflix.
