STEEL BALL RUN: JOJO’s Bizarre Adventure Announces Trailer and Release Date

Grab your cowboy boots and tighten your saddles as Hirohiko Araki’s seventh part adaptation of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure makes its way to Netflix on March 19th! Steel Ball Run takes place in 1890’s America, following the story of former jockey Johnny Joestar. Paralyzed from the waist down, Johnny joins a cross-country horse race after witnessing outlaw Gyro Zeppeli’s supernatural abilities. An alliance is formed, and endurance is tested as both Gyro and Johnny compete with other racers for a shot at the $50 million grand prize.

While there hasn’t been an announcement regarding casting, the team involved with the project is no stranger to the Jojo universe. Yasuhiro Kimura and Hideya Takashi are set to direct the seventh part adaptation, with Hideya previously working on Golden Wind. Toshiyuki Kato is the series director and has previously directed all previous parts of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan.

Alongside them is the series writer Yasuko Kobayashi, who, like Toshiyuki, has written for all Jojo parts as well. Additionally, Yasuko has written for other well-known anime such as Attack on Titan and Yu-Gi-Oh!. David Animation Studio lends their talents alongside Yugo Kanno, who is notorious for their musical talents in other anime such as Psycho-Pass and The Millionaire Detective – Balance: UNLIMITED.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure was published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1987 and has since become a well-loved franchise over the course of its release. With a unique artstyle and expressive characters, Araki’s story combines elements of family and friendship alongside good-natured laughs and hardships. I have no doubt that Steel Ball Run’s animated release will be another fantastic success in the Jojo lineup that old-time fans and newcomers can enjoy.

All five seasons of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, including Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency, Stardust Crusaders, Diamond is Unbreakable, Golden Wind and Stone Ocean, are all available to stream on Netflix.
