Code Geass new anime announced for 20th anniversary

It’s been almost 20 years since Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion premiered, changing the anime scene completely. In honor of the near-20th anniversary, the “Code Geass Project ‘To 20th’ Event” was held today. During the event, the Code Geass team made numerous announcements about various projects, including a new anime titled Code Geass Hoshi Oi no Aspar (Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser).

The event also announced a new manga, in collaboration with Mobile Gundam Suit, in the works. Tomofumi Ogasawara will write the collaborative manga. The collaborative manga comes at the perfect time since Mobile Gundam Suit Wing celebrated its 30th anniversary this year.

More news announced includes the July 2026 televised broadcast of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture and two exhibitions opening next year. The first exhibition will open in September 2026 in Tokyo, and the second in November 2026 in Osaka. The exhibit will focus on the last 20 years of Code Geass.

Additionally, a musical stage play will grace the stages next year. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – Seido ni Jyunzuru Kishi 2 (Code Geass: Lelouch of the RebellionA Knight who Follows His Beliefs 2) will run in Osaka from January 23 through 25. The stage play will then move to run in Tokyo from January 29 through February 1.

Finally, the 13 Code Geass films will return to Japanese theaters. From January 6 until June 25, the movies will play every first and third Tuesday and Thursday in theaters. As of now, there is no news on whether the movies will play in American theaters as well.

What We Know About Code Geass Hoshi Oi no Aspar

Although the plot of Code Geass Hoshi Oi no Aspar has yet to be revealed, numerous crew members have joined the project. The release date has not been announced yet.

Kazuya Nomura, best known for Moriarty the Patriot and Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, directs the new series. Also joining the staff includes Mado Nozaki, who will work on the scripts for the series, Rolua will work on the character designs and Yoshi. designs the “Agarmatha.” Finally, Ichinogi designs the title logo and Junbun Lin works on special effects and background.

Code Geass may have come out 20 years ago, but the series still connects to fans now. The series has always blended all the aspects that fans want in a series. The political touch, combined with action, strategic battles, and shocking plot twists, makes Code Geass a powerhouse of the anime world.

Although Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is critically acclaimed by fans, the numerous films sometimes fall short of their expectations. With the latest series, Code Geass Hoshi Oi no Aspar, coming soon, fans cannot wait to see how it compares to other projects in the series.
