Announced on the official website for Witch Hat Atelier, the TV anime will premiere in Japan in April 2026. Originally set to premiere this year, the studio BUG FILMS postponed the series to ensure the best quality for fans.
In addition to the premiere announcement, voice actors for the main characters, Coco and Qifrey, were also revealed. Rena Motomura, best known as Marie Shaderan in Betrothed to my Sister’s Ex and Kyoka Kitahara in Maebashi Witches, will voice Coco. Natsuki Hanae, best known as Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer, Beam in Chainsaw Man and Okarun in DanDaDan, will voice Qifrey.
Both Motomura and Hanae have high hopes for their roles. Motomura went on record to say, “turning each page brought back memories of my childhood’s small daily events and the longing I felt for my dreams. I identified with Coco and became completely absorbed. The moment I got the role, I was so happy that tears welled up before I could even speak.” Hanae also expressed his honor at being cast as Qifrey.
As the anime airs in Japan, fans worldwide, such as in North America and Europe, will also be able to watch it on Crunchyroll. The second teaser trailer also came out, which fans can watch on YouTube:
Ayumu Watanabe serves as director of Witch Hat Atelier at studio BUG FILMS, with music by Yuka Kitamura. Kairi Unabara also joins the staff by working on character designs. Studio BUGS FILMS previously animated Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. Witch Hat Atelier is its second major television animation project, excluding collaborative works.
About the Witch Hat Atelier Manga
Written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama, Witch Hat Atelier began its serialization in 2016. The series was serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine Morning Two. Currently, the manga has 14 volumes released in Japan.
Witch Hat Atelier follows Coco, who is fascinated by magic. However, magic is only for those born with it in her world. Coco soon encounters a wizard named Qifrey, who teaches her that magic can be conjured through special ink and a magical circle. After Coco casts a forbidden spell, which causes terrible effects, leaving Qifrey no choice but to take her as his apprentice.
