One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
It seems the Simurians and Japanese are on a sure path to peace and understanding. A large group dinner party, where everyone can relax and freely converse, is just what the doctor ordered. However, the higher the peak, the farther it falls.
The dinner party goes wonderfully. Good food and good vibes abound. The Simurians even feel comfortable asking for help about a death curse placed upon Dabura’s sister. Usami sees this as a chance to broker favor and goodwill between them. Back on the Simurian ship, though, a dark revelation comes to light. The Japanese have killed a kalyan.
The Calm Before the Storm
What a fun reprieve from the drama. It’s nice to see that Akutami (writer) hasn’t lost his touch for silly slice of life gags. Some of the most memorable parts of Jujutsu Kaisen were just Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara acting like goofy teenagers. Now, in chapter 11 of JJK Modulo, we get Tsurugi and Maru getting stung by jellyfish, Yuka witnessing a blossoming romance, and even the stuffy higher-ups letting their hair down. Part of the charm of the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise is its off-kilter humor. This chapter had several laugh-out-loud moments for me. Iwasaki’s (artist) art is on point as always. Vibrant character expressions, incredible backgrounds and just the right amount of silliness.
This chapter also highlighted the budding relationships between Tsurugi and Maru and Yuka and Cross. They come across as very wholesome and natural, given how much they’ve shared. I do wish that we could see more of Tsurugi and Yuka together. Their relationship and family drama kicked off the series, so it’d be nice to touch base on it again.
I’m very curious about what else Akutami will throw at us, and what’s to come. Now that all the chips are on the table, it’s time for a wild card. The death of the Simurians’ sacred animal is sure to kick off a domino effect of accusations and conflict.
