PS4 Players Can Say Goodbye to Genshin Impact Soon

On August 5th, HoYoverse announced that Genshin Impact will leave the PlayStation 4 due to the console’s limited capability and platform application size. HoYoverse announced that the removal of Genshin Impact will move in three phases, with phase 1 starting next month. PlayStation 5 players will not be impacted by this change at all.

The Phases and Timeline

Phase 1 begins on September 10, 2025, with Hoyoverse removing Genshin Impact from the PlayStation Store. Any PS4 player who has not downloaded Genshin Impact will not be able to find the game on the PlayStation Store. However, players who have deleted the game and want to redownload it can redownload it [Store > Library]. During this time, PS4 players can still update the game and make in-game purchases.

On February 25, 2026, phase 2 will commence. During phase 2, PS4 players can no longer make in-game purchases or purchases on the PlayStation Store. However, players who made previous purchases, prior to the 25th, can still log into the game on their PS4 and collect their rewards.

The third and final phase, on April 8, 2026, will not allow players to claim any of the rewards from purchases on PS4. More importantly, players can no longer access the game on PS4. Genshin Impact will also no longer receive any updates following this date on the PS4.

Since HoYoverse announced the removal of Genshin Impact on the PS4, players have expressed outrage on social media. Many players have expressed how they won’t have other platforms to play Genshin Impact on due to numerous outside forces, such as limited phone storage or high costs of other consoles, like the PS5.

Genshin Impact recently released the 5.8 update, with a new event and area for players to enjoy. For the time being, PlayStation 4 players can continue to travel through Genshin Impact until next April.
