The people we come in contact with, whether in a negative or positive light, can shape the way we as people grow. We learn from their interactions and strive to either be just like them or better, pushing our limits further beyond what we thought possible to prove them wrong. And for Shin, he demonstrates to the people in his past, as well as himself, that his clairvoyant powers are nowhere close to a weakness. Here is the recap and review of Sakamoto Days episode 8.
SAKAMOTO DAYS Episode 8 Recap
Sakamoto Days episode 8 starts back in the Lab, with Sakamoto and Shin gearing up to fight Mad Horiguchi. Mad compliments Sakamoto’s speed and power, but Sakamoto realizes that Mad had injected him and Shin. Sakamoto brushes off the injection and goes to punch Mad but punches Shin instead!
Back in the cell, the head researcher of the Lab, Asakura (voiced by Yong Yea), lets Lu know how he became a prisoner. He explains that after objecting to the orders of the assassins, they ultimately locked him away. Lu complains that they locked her up thinking she was Shin, and Asakura tells her that Shin got his clairvoyant powers because of his team’s research. We then get flashbacks of Asakura and a young Shin as Asakura navigates between his research and being a parental figure to Shin. Asakura’s research seems to come to fruition as a young Shin drinks his experiment that gives the boy his clairvoyant powers.
However, as Shin starts to speak everyone’s thoughts out loud, the other researchers start to distance themselves from him. The researchers call Shin scary. They cannot relax around him, and Asakura fights to reverse the effects. A young Shin runs away from the Lab as the flashback ends, and Asakura explains to Lu that he hasn’t spoken or seen Shin since then. Lu explains that Shin has embraced his clairvoyant powers and that they can both apologize to Shin together.
Shin Continues to Struggle
Back upstairs, Shin is struggling to keep up with Sakamoto due to Mad’s injection as well as with Mad himself. Mad calls Shin’s ability worthless, but Sakamoto disagrees. Sakamoto and Shin become in sync, using the same mind reading tactic that was used to fight the assassins at the theme park to take Mad Horiguchi down. The researchers cure the effects of the injections and Sakamoto and Shin are back to normal. As the duo race to find Lu, Shin asks if all the members of The Order are as strong as Samakoto. Sakamoto explains that they’re all strong in different ways and that Shin should play dead if he ever finds himself in a fight with a member.
Suddenly, the pair hit a switch that opens a trapdoor beneath them. Sakamoto kicks Shin out of the way and falls down the hole, landing in the middle of a fight between Osaragi, Shishiba, and Kashima. Shishiba and Osaragi are quick to dismantle Kashima, but Kashima is stronger than he lets on. The Order duo leave Kashima to fight Sakamoto as they set off on their own tasks. Shin tries to regroup with Sakamoto and to find Lu, but gets caught in a heated battle with Seba. The battle seems to be over for a bloody Shin, but just as Shin gets blood on an invisible Seba, Heisuke’s surprise shots disable Seba and turn the tide of the fight.
Review of the Episode
Sakamoto Days episode 8 had a lot of twists and turns for our main cast, as well as a bit more established lore for Shin. I did enjoy seeing how Mad Horiguchi fought with his science injections. It seemed to put a dent in Shin and Sakamoto’s task of finding Lu.
Also, I enjoyed seeing the bit of lore involved with Shin’s powers and how he got them. It reminded me a bit of how Luffy got his Devil Fruit powers in One Piece by just simply being an unaware young kid. I do hope that Asakura gets to see a grown up Shin and how the boy’s life he thought he ruined turned into a cutthroat fighter who embraced his ability whole heartedly. Additionally, I’m excited to see how Sakamoto’s fight goes with Kashima and also hope we get more screen time for Osaragi and Shishiba as the anime develops.
