Last time on The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World!
Our heroes devised a plan to defeat Lord Loulogart and neutralize his mana seed. Lowji grew jealous of Togo’s familiarity with Teltina and attempted to sabotage him. During the fight, Togo could not transform, and Lowji had to stand alone. He was forced on the defensive when Loulogart targeted Teltina. Then, Yihdra erected a barrier to buy time, and after a reluctant reconciliation, Togo and Lowji teamed up to defeat Loulogart. However, his mana seed mutated into a giant meteor and threatened to flatten all of Akalina.
The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World! Episode 5 starts right where the last one left off. Togo summons Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, now with four pilots inside. They push the meteor into outer space where Lowji unleashes the “Brave Ray Kizuna Slash” to destroy it. Back in town, Princess Teltina reveals she also possesses a mana seed. It allows her to summon Vrykolakas, a giant wolf that safely removes the mana seed from its host.
"The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World!" Episode 5 Recap
There is no time to celebrate. A new foe reveals itself. Enter the Ever-Laughing Abudabi, a member of the Royal Demons and offspring of the Demon Queen. They’ve been sowing mana seeds in people to increase the negative mana in the world and resurrect the Demon Queen. To make sure their plans stay on schedule, Abudabi attempts to take out the party.
His minions pin down Yihdra and Teltina while Togo and Lowji fend off his direct attacks. Abudabi aims a devastating strike at Togo, but Lowji pushes him out of the way and suffers most of the damage. Togo snaps and deep crimson flames surround his body. Before the fight can continue, the current Royal Scepter, Shau’ha Shemyazal appears and subdues Abudabi’s minions. The demon takes that opportunity to retreat, leaving our heroes to lick their wounds.
As the sun sets, Grossa expresses her gratitude and resolve to rebuild the town. Togo is distracted by Abudabi’s taunts and the possibility that there might be more other-worlders. Shau’ha interrupts and says they need to return to the capital. She activates a giant magic circle to teleport the party to the Sorcery Tower located in Avallost City. The Tower is also where Yihdra and her father were banished from, a fact Shau’ha is all too happy to rub in her face.
Review of the Episode
The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World! episode 5 felt like it flew by despite all of the new discoveries the characters made. It’s amusing how much Togo equates everything he sees to his original world. The show still manages to sprinkle in some tokusatsu tropes in this fantasy setting. That setting has gotten much more interesting with the appearance of the Royal Demons and the Royal Scepter. Introducing both Abudabi and Shau’ha in the same episode was a surprise.
Abudabi represents a greater evil force similar to the Relationship Enders from Togo’s world. His design and voice acting are very fun and the way he taunts Togo and twists his philosophy on bonds is wickedly clever. Shau’ha’s presence is a great way to tie Yihdra’s story back into the plot. The audience can now put a face to the name. It’ll give the story a chance to address the more personal drama going on.
Lastly, this episode did a great job of moving the plot forward. It was technically one big fight, but there were enough details and hooks to keep the characters interesting. Abudabi and Shau’ha weren’t introduced for the sake of adding more characters to the roster. They each had reasons for showing up when they did. Their presence affected the four main protagonists. Teltina had some pent-up aggression against the Royal Demons, Lowji had a chance to atone for his thievery from the last episode, Yihdra had to confront the source of her disdain, and Togo found new motivation and a strange new power. These developments are hinting at a much larger story going on.
