Gekijouban Project Sekai Kowareta SEKAI to Utaenai MIKU (translation: “Project Seikai the Movie: The Broken World and The Miku Who Can’t Sing”) will hit all Japanese theaters on January 17, 2025. However, the limited-release screening began yesterday, December 27, and will run until February 6 in specialty theaters in Japan.
The anime film follows the original plot and shows us a new version of Hatsune Miku. It will focus on high schooler and street musician Ichika Hoshino. Hoshino stumbles into a CD shop and hears a Miku song she’s never heard before. She then learns that this version of Miku is struggling to reach people with her music, and the two work together to reach her audience.
In July, the animation studio P.A. WORKS announced that they were working on Gekijouban Project Sekai Kowareta SEKAI to Utaenai MIKU, with the film based on the original work by Sega, Crypton Future Media, and Colorful Palette. Joining the staff includes director Hiroyuki Hata, scriptwriter Yoko Yonaiyama, chief animation directors and character designers Yuki Akiyama and Masatoshi Tsuji, and music scorer Satoshi Hono.
The world-renowned Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid created by Cryptom Future Media in 2007. The 16-year-old, with her two famous turquoise ponytails, earned a mass following within the community. From racing deals to appearances in hit games like Fortnite, it’s certain that Gekijouban Project Sekai Kowareta SEKAI to Utaenai MIKU will have a line out of theaters.Â
