My Hero Academia: You're Next
My Hero Academia is a powerhouse franchise. Following the journey of Izuku Midoriya and his friends as they train to become world class heroes and use their special powers known as quirks to save others and defeat villains, the franchise has amassed an enormous following and a dedicated fanbase. The manga by Kohei Horikoshi began in 2014, and the anime adaptation followed two years later. Since then, there have been six seasons of the show, several video games, and three movies to date, as well as the continued original manga series and a couple of spin off series as well. The seventh season of the anime recently received a confirmed premiere date of May 4th, meaning that the new film will come after the airing of much, if not all, of the seventh season.
When the film was first announced, little was revealed in terms of plot or timeline. The first looks provided in a new teaser trailer show class 1A’s return to the big screen, as well as a mysterious figure who resembles the great hero All Might and may be the story’s main antagonist. The plot of the film is an entirely original story set around the time of where the anime currently takes place, post the massive attack on society from the sixth season. Not much else was revealed in the teaser trailer, and both an official announcement regarding an English language dub and a release date outside of Japan are still forthcoming, but more is likely to be announced in the coming months.
With a full season of the anime and a brand new movie on the horizon, 2024 is looking to be an exciting year for fans of My Hero Academia.
