Netflix revealed that in November 2024, Arcane Season 2 will be available on the streaming service. The announcement for Arcane Season 2 came from Netflix’s third annual Geeked Week, a week-long virtual celebration filled with news, debuts, first looks, and behind-the-scenes secrets for series, films, animation, and games.
Arcane Season 2
Based on the well-known game League of Legends from Riot Games, the animated series Arcane was created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. Linke and Yee, alongside Brandon Beck, Jane Chung, Thomas Vu, and Marc Merrill, will produce Season 2. Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung will return to voice their characters Vi, Powder/Jinx, and Caitlyn Kiramman, respectively.
Arcane explores the beginnings of two legendary League of Legends champions, Jinx and Vi, who come from Zaun, the oppressed underground sister city of Piltover. With the increase in technological advancements, boundary-pushing inventors, groups of hooligans stirring trouble, and politicians and criminal lords that influence the inner workings of these city-states, tensions are at an all-time high, causing a divide amongst the citizens. Sisters Vi and Jinx find themselves at the center of the conflict when they accidentally steal an artifact of unfathomable power. In Arcane, villains and heroes are created when friends and family must take sides.
Riot Games and the French animation studio Fortiche Production worked together to create Season 1. Season 1 of Arcane won 22 awards and made history when it became the first streaming series to win the Outstanding Animated Program at the Emmys. It was Netflix’s highest-rated series and ranked first on the Netflix Top 10 Chart in 52 countries when it premiered.
League of Legends
League of Legends (commonly referred to as LoL or League) is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game. Launched in 2009, League continues to be one of the biggest esports globally. Its popularity has led to collaborations in the music, comic, and short story industries. It also led to several spin-off games, such as League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Ruined King: A League of Legends Story.
For those unfamiliar, League is a team game where two teams of five players start on opposite sides of the map. The two teams must protect their side of the map while destroying the paths leading to the rival team’s territory. The first to destroy the opposing team’s Nexus structure wins.
Each player selects a champion to play as. Players must consider a champion’s unique abilities and playing styles when choosing them, adding a strategic element to the game. There are currently more than 160 champions to choose from. Arcane Season 1 features several champions like Vi, Jinx, Ekko, Jayce, Viktor, and Caitlyn.
