Natsuki Takaya, creator of the beloved romance manga Fruits Basket, is launching a new manga series on Monday, September 4th. Titled Kakumo Chiisaki Sekai Nite, which translates to In Such a Small World, will be released by publisher Hakusensha on their Manga Park app and website.

While not much is known about the plot of the In Such a Small World series yet, a brief summary has been revealed. The romance story focuses on two young neighbors whose lives end up entwined. 23-year-old Sui Onodera left home and is now living in an apartment. One day, her neighbor Kaoru Seto barges into her home and explains that his dog has ended up on her balcony. Following this encounter, Seto begins to integrate into Onodera’s life.
What stands out in Takaya’s previous work is the emotional depth of the characters and the intellectual storytelling she brings to the table, which will hopefully be on display once again in Kakumo Chiisaki Sekai nite. With this new series coming up very soon, fans of Fruits Basket have a brand new romance manga to look forward to, brought to them by a renowned name in the genre.
Fruits Basket
Takaya has written a couple of manga over the years but is certainly most famous for her series Fruits Basket, which was originally serialized in Hana to Yume magazine from July 1998 to November 2006. Fruits Basket follows Tohru Honda, an orphan who moves in with a family that suffers from a curse that causes them to turn into the animals of the Chinese zodiac at awkward times. The series has made a lasting impact on the romance genre and has remained wildly popular even many years after its end
The original manga was adapted as an anime series on two separate occasions; the first having been released in 2001 by Studio Deen, and the second being produced by TMS Entertainment and running three seasons from 2019 to 2021. A sequel manga series titled Fruits Basket Another ran for two years, a spin off series called The Three Musketeers Arc began in 2019. A film titled Fruits Basket: Prelude was released in theaters in 2022.
In Such a Small World begins on September 4th and will be released on the Manga Park app and website on Mondays.
