We spoke with voice actor Adam McArthur about Jujutsu Kaisen and his career in voice acting. Adam is most known for voicing Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen and Chifuyu Matsuno in Tokyo Revengers.

JUJUTSU KAISEN
Jujutsu Kaisen is a hit 2018 Shonen Jump series by Gege Akutami. The first season of the anime was released in 2020. The second season began airing on July 6th and is currently updating each Thursday on Crunchyroll. Jujutsu Kaisen follows a group of people who have a special, supernatural power known as “cursed energy.” These sorcerers protect the people of Japan from “cursed spirits” that are manifestations of human fear and negative emotions.
Adam McArthur is the voice of Yuji Itadori, one of the first year high school students under Gojo’s tutelage. Manga readers are aware of what is coming in the next arc, called the Shibuya arc, but anime only fans are also aware that the rest of Jujutsu Kaisen season two will be fast-paced and intense. A lot of the characters go through intense growth and some really dark times, especially Yuji. We asked Adam how it felt to explore a darker side of Yuji Itadori, a character known for his positive attitude. He said:
“It’s really interesting. There’s a lot of parallels in my life with Yuji’s life in terms of just – I’m a pretty optimistic, happy person, but you know, we all have our stuff. We all have things that we deal with and what-not. And I typically play good boys, like I’ve just been fortunate enough that most of my career has been good boys so I haven’t had to tap into that, like villain side or whatever...I haven't had to tap into like, a darker side.”
