JUJUTSU KAISEN
Jujutsu Kaisen is a hit 2018 Shonen Jump series by Gege Akutami. The first season of the anime was released in 2020. The second season began airing on July 6th and is currently updating each Thursday on Crunchyroll. Jujutsu Kaisen follows a group of people who have a special, supernatural power known as “cursed energy.” These sorcerers protect the people of Japan from “cursed spirits” that are manifestations of human fear and negative emotions.
Kaiji Tang is the voice of fan favorite, Satoru Gojo. The first five episodes of season two take viewers back to 2006, when Gojo was a student in Jujutsu High. In the current timeline, Gojo is sensei to the current generation of sorcerers, including Yuji Itadori, Nobara Kugisaki, and Megumi Fushiguro. We asked Kaiji how it felt to delve into a teenage version of Gojo.
“It was very freeing, very fun. Not saying that adult Gojo is a very serious person. He’s just absolutely not. But he’s got it a little more together than his teenage counterpart. I really wanted to drive home how disrespectful [teenage Gojo] is. Like really, really, really disrespectful. It sounds really weird to say Gojo matures. It’s always a strange word to put around his name, the word ‘mature.’ But he does. A great loss in life will always spark some sort of growth. Even in Gojo.”
