Studio Ghibli and Levi’s have teamed up for a very special Princess Mononoke streetwear collection! According to Studio Ghibli and Levi’s, this partnership felt organic since both companies have long histories and are known for having iconic, detail-centric styles in their respective industries. Together, they have created a collection that seamlessly combines their signature styles and feels authentic to both companies.
Studio Ghibli and Levi's Collaboration
The Studio Ghibli and Levi’s collection centers around nature and honors the painted landscapes in Hayao Miyazaki’s 1997 film. Levi’s uses light and dark denim to help convey the landscapes, while they use their t-shirts and hoodies to portray the characters.
Their goal for this collection was to focus on the details and give fans wearable designs. Levi’s took a lot of inspiration from the flow of the film. Like the film, which has calm moments that quickly turn into action-filled sequences, this collection does the same. It’s the perfect mix of subtle and vibrant designs!
The collection also features several accessories with iconic elements from the movie on them. With their accessories, the team wanted to convey that “beauty is in the small things.” They wanted fans to be able to carry along a piece of Princess Mononoke with them every day. The accessories not only honor Miyazaki’s film, but also honor Levi’s Western roots as well. An example of this is Levi’s taking their signature bandanas and printing San’s battle mask and Kodama on them.
Also released, is a video showcasing the collection:
Levi’s and Studio Ghibli’s detail-oriented styles shine through in this collection! Even when picking out the styles of jeans, they intentionally included their 501® ’93 Jeans because they came out about the same time Princess Mononoke was released.
