Anime Pasadena is cooking up a hot new guest from the One Piece Live Action (OPLA) show on Netflix. Best known for his portrayal of Sanji, the woman-obsessed Straw Hat cook, Taz Skylar will appear on Saturday and Sunday, November 7-8.
Created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997, One Piece is one of the most popular manga/anime franchises of all time, winning awards such as “most published comic book series by a single author” from the Guinness World Records in 2015, and beating its own record in 2022. The franchise has gone on to produce an anime with more than 1,100 episodes, 15 movies, video games and a Netflix live-action series.
One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy in the live-action), a rubber boy with a dream of becoming the King of the Pirates. Luffy assembles a ragtag crew known as the Straw Hat Pirates, and they sail through the Grand Line in search of the ultimate treasure known as the One Piece.
Fans meet Skylar’s character Sanji at the Baratie, a world-class restaurant on the ocean. Determined to find the All Blue, where the North Blue, South Blue, East Blue and West Blue seas meet, Sanji leaves the Baratie to join Luffy’s crew as the chef. Some of Skylar’s other roles include Noah Santos from Cleaner and Ash from Gassed Up (which he also co-wrote).
