SEGA and Netflix have announced their ultimate team-up! Recently, both companies have shared that they are partnering to create multiple projects based on some of SEGA’s most iconic IPs!
Crazy Taxi Drives onto the Film Scene
The first project is a film based on the game series, Crazy Taxi, a racing game by SEGA that debuted back in 1999. Its most recent entry in the game series releases later this year. The film will be written by the duo of Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, best known for writing the 2025 comedy film, The Naked Gun, which received positive reviews from critics. There is no word yet on who will be directing or starring since these projects are in very early development.
Stranger Than Heaven Joins the Deal
Stranger Than Heaven will also be receiving a live-action film adaptation as part of the deal. Stranger Than Heaven is set within the same universe as the greater Like A Dragon franchise and serves as a prequel. The game itself has yet to be released and will do so on January 15th of 2027. The Senior Executive Officer of SEGA, Toru Nakahara, is set to be a producer on the film, but there is no news as to who will be writing, directing, or starring, for the same reasons as Crazy Taxi.
A New Sonic Series is Speeding onto Screens
The last of the newly announced projects is a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog series geared towards the preschool age group. The series will follow Sonic and friends as they go on adventures and is said to be comedic in tone, while also still being grounded emotionally. While other characters have yet to be announced as part of the cast, fans can expect the core group to have roles, including Tails, Knuckles and Amy, but we’ll have to wait for SEGA for any official confirmation.
A Reminder on Persona
While not announced with the other projects as part of the deal, SEGA and Atlus did announce that they are working on a live-action Persona adaptation for Netflix a few months back. Story Kitchen and 21 Laps Entertainment are involved in the series, as well as Christopher Monfette, who will be serving as showrunner.
