If you’re a fan of One Piece your likely in it because of the amazing story telling that Eiichiro Oda employs for his masterpiece. You can appreciate the slow burn of a story and aren’t one to rush to the end. I know for me I would rewatch several episodes because I didn’t think I saw everything the first time around. Being a One Piece fan means having a complicated relationship with the idea of the series ending. We’ve known for years that Eiichiro Oda is moving toward the finish line. The Final Saga is underway, enormous revelations are happening, and storylines that have been building for decades are finally beginning to collide.
The One Piece ending could still be years away, but four more years? It may not be enough to resolve every Straw Hat dream and unfinished storyline.
One user had me rolling with a comment, “Oda is not a reliable source of information, but he is also the source of all information.” How true is that? Lol.
What in the Poneglyphs?
First of all we still need to learn about a lot of the world itself. The Poneglyphs for one. We know that Blackbeard has one that Robin still needs to decipher. And we have no idea yet if anyone from his crew knows how to read it.
There are a lot of places beyond the Elbaf art and we know that this arc is meant to be arc 2 of the final saga. The final saga is estimated to have 4-5 sagas in total. With One Piece now being a seasonal anime we’re not sure if each arc will be one season or split into two seasons or more.

- Nico Robin wants to discover the True History.
- Franky wants the Thousand Sunny to become the dream ship that reaches the end of the Grand Line. He built a vessel capable of surpassing the ship created by his mentor, Tom, and he wants to see it complete the ultimate voyage.
- Jinbe wants humans and fish-men to live together peacefully, carrying forward the dreams of people like Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime.
- Brook wanted to meet back up with Laboon and emotionally I don’t think any One Piece fan is going to get through this one without a box of tissues.
- Tony Tony Chopper wants to become a doctor capable of curing any disease. Considering the strange diseases and medical mysteries that have appeared throughout One Piece, there are plenty of ways Oda could eventually put that dream to the ultimate test.
- Zoro still needs to beat Mihawk
- Sanji wants to find the All Blue
- Luffy wants to be the one to find the One Piece.
Of Course That’s Just the Straw Hats
We also have characters like Shanks, Boa Hancock, and the rest of the Emperors of the Sea. Not to mention the big bad World Government. There has to be a story there about the mysterious “D” because they tend to actively seek out those with that initial to either eliminate them or just keep an eye on them. We need to reach Laugh Tale and we need to learn the truth about Gol D. Roger’s journey.
My personal theory, or rather a deep want for the series is that the One Piece is a giant time loop that the crew can choose to go back and relive everything again. Because then we would have a great reason to watch it from the start, over and over again.
Fans are Wishing Hard for Oda Not to Rush This
Fans are pushing back saying that four years is laughable. Especially with how the story has been going so far. Even if they released a part of the story and had four seasons a year it might cover a lot but definitely could provide space for more if they needed. There’s also OVAs that could happen with side stories. I suppose those could take a year or so to plan and come out. I think personally an OVA about the VOID century would be a great place to start.
All we know is that Oda has planned it out and has even written it down in case he passes. That’s true dedication to the fans and it’s why we love him so much. So knowing how much he appreciates his fans, we might get to see this stretched out at least another five years.
I’m not ready for a 30-year-old saga to end. Are you?
