Takopi’s Original Sin Compilation Film Set to Release on November 27

Shizuku and Takopi will learn to smile one more time on the big screen. Promoted by the characters themselves in a special video, Takopi’s Original Sin is getting a compilation film for Japanese theaters. And promising some brand new scenes as well!

Takopi’s Original Sin (2025) is a six-episode adaptation of Taizen 5’s manga series of the same name. Ever since the manga completed its run, Takopi’s Original Sin has gained many readers and accolades, with the juxtaposition of its cute art style and its dark themes being a huge selling point.

The synopsis from Crunchyroll reads:

Happy alien Takopi, lands on Earth with one mission: to spread happiness! When he meets Shizuka, a lonely fourth grader, he vows to bring back her smile using his magical Happy Gadgets. But as he uncovers the pain in her life, Takopi learns that true happiness may require more than gadgets.

It should be immediately clear from commentary on this show that, despite the cartoon-gag tone of the art style and the trailer, Takopi’s is anything but a comfy time. The anime even warns you from its first frame with a massive disclaimer for the dark subject matter and graphic imagery that is to come. Even the premise is far, far more complicated in practice.

Feature-Length Anguish

The movie now titled Takopi’s Original Sin: Thank You, See You Tomorrow, is a feature-length re-edit of the anime with newly animated scenes. It’s still unclear if a cinematic runtime and pacing will heavily alter or cut parts of the story, but being a short mini-series, the narrative should remain mostly intact.

The original creative team at studio ENISHIYA is still intact, with Shinta Iino (director for Dr. Stone) as director and Keita Nagahara (key animator for Violet Evergarden) as character designer.

Personally, the idea of watching Takopi’s Original Sin all in one go sounds a bit overwhelming, especially without breaks in between each episode. But I’m happy to see the creators be so confident about Takopi’s and the opportunity for more people to see this story.

I just hope parents read the disclaimers before taking their kids to see it. Takopi’s Original Sin: Thank You, See You Tomorrow is set to release in Japanese theaters on November 27.
