Deltarune Chapter 5 is Almost Here

As promised last year, Deltarune Chapter 5 is waiting for everyone way sooner than we thought, on June 24, 2026!

Things are going to be moving fast this month. New theories, new fan content, and a whole new wave of fans are going to be flooding the internet soon.

What is Deltarune?

Deltarune is an episodic turn-based RPG with non-lethal combat created by Toby Fox. (developer of Undertale) Advertised as a parallel story/sequel to Undertale, Deltarune is a brand new story that overhauls previous mechanics and expands on previous themes and loose ends. Unlike the choice-based structure of Undertale, Deltarune is set to only have “one ending.”

You play as a human named Kris, an adopted teenager in a town full of kind monsters. One fateful day, they fall into a mysterious “Dark World” and join forces with Susie, a monster classmate, and Ralsei, a prince of the dark, on an epic adventure to save both worlds from a nefarious Knight. In the same vein as its previous title, Deltarune is a fun, cozy ride with a colorful cast of charming characters and worlds while also encompassing a complex, twisting mystery infused with elements of existential horror.

Deltarune on Deltajune

As has been speculated all the way since Chapter 1, we get to explore the Dark World version of Asgore’s Flower King shop – with the trailer littered with plants, petals, and pots. But what we didn’t expect was for Deltarune to double down on its Japanese influences by having the Flower King world also be styled after traditional Japanese palaces and shrines. And yes, cherry blossoms are here too.

The most notable scenes are at the tail end of the trailer.

One features a solo segment with Kris dodging a magic knife attack that Undertale fans should be all too familiar with. And the other is a running segment across a wet wheat field. For those who’ve been scouring the deepest corners of the game, remember what the spooky man said: “On Sunday, I harvest the wheat. Hold your breath, head to the left, and count backwards to 100…”

Or it could be nothing.

Toby Fox ominously states in the recent spring newsletter:

Chapter 4, we saw dark clouds on the horizon… That’s why, let’s not look there for now. Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely. Let’s smile again. Let’s have one more fun adventure, okay?”

Seeing as we left off on such a major narrative and tonal turning point in Chapter 4 with the full unveiling of the Prophecy, Chapter 5’s trailer is very short and understated. Even more so than the previous trailers before.

Deltarune is putting every last piece before the endgame here; there probably isn’t a single frame that won’t be entrenched in big surprises and payoffs.

Even the one frame in GoNintendo’s press release featuring the Festival in all of its glory carries dozens of interesting implications on what’s coming. It has never been a better time for newcomers to get into the game and for fans to be rewarded for their 8 years of investment.

Highly anticipated releases this year have been subject to pretty nasty leaks online. Deltarune is absolutely no exception to this.

Don’t let a mention of a song title, YouTube thumbnails, and one overly excited fan spoil the experience. Keep yourself safe and avoid community discussion a couple of days before release.
