Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Wins at the Japan Academy Awards

With the film currently making its first theatrical return, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle makes the headlines once more. The first installment of the Infinity Castle film has won the Best Animation Film category at the 49th annual Japan Academy Awards, yesterday in Tokyo.

The competition for this award was fierce. Other nominees included Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, 100 Meters and Peleliu: Guernica of Paradise.

March has been an incredible month for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle. Last week, on March 8th, Infinity Castle won Best International Animated Film at the 53rd annual Saturn Awards.

Infinity Castle’s win does not come as a surprise. With the film’s record-breaking run, it became the highest-grossing anime film in North America and earned a Golden Globe nomination. The film took the entire world by storm.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is the first part in the Infinity Castle trilogy. In the film, Tanjiro Kamado, the Hashira and the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps begin the fight until dawn against Muzan Kibutsuji and his demons, including the six Upper Moons.

The film highlights three different battles between Demon Slayers and three Upper Moons. Ufotable seamlessly combined incredible fight scenes, dramatic deaths and heartbreaking backstories to create a monumental film.

Infinity Castle II has no set release date yet, but fans expect it to release in 2027. The second film should focus heavily on Kokushibo versus Sanemi, Gyomei, Muichiro and Genya fight, Douma versus Inosuke and Kanao fight, and the Nakime versus Obanai and Mitsuri fights. Finally, the third film, which fans project to come out in 2029, will focus on the entire Demon Slayer Corps taking down Muzan Kibutsuji.

As we all await the second film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has returned to theaters, and fans can watch it nationwide now. Previous Demon Slayer seasons and their first film, Mugen Train, can be found on Crunchyroll.
