The recently concluded historical romance manga, Firefly Wedding, has been confirmed to be getting an anime adaptation. No word yet as to which animation studio will be taking this on, but there is speculation that madhouse studios may be taking this on.
Firefly Wedding was first published in 2023, and has ten volumes that recently reached their conclusion in October of 2025. This manga has been so well received and has been nominated for several different manga awards. It also had 3 million copies in circulation in September of 2025.
The Plot of Firefly Wedding
This story follows Satoko, who was born into a noble family. However, despite her title, she suffers from poor health due to a heart condition. Because of her status, she becomes a target of a famous assassin, Goto Shinpei.
With Satoko backed into a corner, she desperately makes an offer to Shinpei to marry him in order to spare her life. The pair enter an estranged engagement; now, on the run due to Shinpei not following orders.
There is a lot of action and deep character writing. The relationship between Shinpei and Satoko isn’t your typical meet-cute. There are a lot of dark and adult themes within this manga, as Shinpei’s character starts off on a scary yandere-like note.
What to Expect From The Firefly Wedding Anime
For fans of Yakuza Fiance, there are some similar vibes and tones in Firefly Wedding. That said, the romance is very different and emotionally heavy. Romance is heavily prevalent, but there is a good blend of action within the story as well.
