They say love is like a battlefield, but they never mentioned assassins! The highly anticipated anime adaptation of the action-romance manga MARRIAGETOXIN dropped exciting news along with a new visual and anime trailer.
Synopsis
Hikaru Gero is the pride and joy of the Poison Clan, a family of assassins that specializes in deadly concoctions. His life in the underworld had convinced him he’d never find love. But when his family threatens to make his sister produce an heir against her will, he’s determined to protect her. Thus, he embarks on the long and winding path towards marriage. With the help of a marriage swindler, Mei Kinosaki, Gero will navigate the confusing world of dating while fending off threats from all sides. Love and poison, a match made in heaven.
A Spoonful of Poison Helps the Romance Go Down
The manga MARRIAGETOXIN debuted in April 2022 on the ShonenJump+ platform. It is written by Joumyaku and illustrated by Mizuki Yoda. It is currently ongoing with 15 compilation volumes and a 16th expected in January 2026.
The anime adaptation was announced in September 2025 with the first MARRIAGETOXIN Anime TEASER TRAILER and a key visual. Bones Film (My Hero Academia) will head production with Motonobu Hori (Metallic Rouge) as director. As of December 2025, a new Anime MARRIAGETOXIN First Trailer and key visual have been released, featuring Gero’s skills in action along with his potential bachelorettes and rivals.
The anime is shaping up to be an exciting and faithful adaptation. Character Design and Chief Animation Director Kohei Tokuoka (Bungou Stray Dogs) has brilliantly brought the characters to life, capturing their unique quirks and styles. The cast is also stacked with many veteran voice actors from shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, Blue Box and Hunter X Hunter.
