Devil May Cry Returns: Netflix Announces Season 2 Premiere

Dante’s back! Following the incredibly successful first season of the Netflix anime adaptation of the Capcom game Devil May Cry, season 2 is coming our way soon. Season 2 of Devil May Cry will premiere on May 12, 2026.

From the trailers Netflix released, fans can tell that season 2 will focus heavily on the main character, Dante, and his brother, Vergil. In the official X (formerly Twitter) announcement, we see a photo of the two brothers posing for a picture, which now rests in a locket. However, one thing is for sure. The playing field between the two is even. Who better than to match the strength of the half-demon, half-human Devil Hunter Dante than his very own twin?

A week after the release of season 1 last year, Netflix confirmed an immediate season 2 for Devil May Cry. Then, a few months ago, fans got a first look at season 2 in a trailer that teases the brothers’ fight. Netflix describes season 2 as:

ā€œIn season 2, a war between worlds ignites as Dante must battle the only force that mirrors his own: his estranged twin brother Vergil.ā€

In season 2, fans won’t know what to expect. Showrunner Adi Shankar (Castlevania, Castlevania: Nocturne) previously explained on his personal X account that Devil May Cry season 2 will be vastly different than season 1. Shankar explained that in season 2, Dante will grow stronger and adapt, further pushing along the storyline.Ā

That being said, Devil May Cry (2025) is separate from its video game series. Although not canon to the DMC universe, the adaptation remains popular amongst the game’s fans. Shankar explained that the Netflix series lives as its own separate entity in a ā€œbootlegā€ universe. By creating the series this way, Shankar can highlight Dante’s struggles and growth, rather than just his victories.Ā

Studio Mir, best known for The Boondocks, Voltron: Legendary Defenders and X-Men ā€˜97, continues to animate the series. The cast reprises their season 1 roles as well. Johnny Yong Bosch voices Dante, Robbie Daymond voices Vergil and Scout Taylor-Compton voices Lady.

Since 2001, Devil May Cry has become a beloved game in the dark fantasy genre. With five separate main games, with the latest coming out in 2019, across XBox and PlayStation, fans across the world have kept up with Dante’s demon-hunting adventures.Ā

Shortly before the release of Devil May Cry on Netflix, NebulaJoy and CAPCOM released a mobile game, entitled Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat. Finally, the Netflix adaptation is not the only DMC anime. In 2007, Madhouse Studio created Devil May Cry: The Animated Series. Devil May Cry: The Animated Series had its own plot set sometime between the first two DMC video games.Ā

Until May, when season 2 of Devil May Cry premieres, fans can catch up on season 1 on Netflix.Ā
