Get your lightsticks and signs ready because Tamon’s B-Side officially debuts on Crunchyroll on January 4, 2026!
This idol-themed anime, based on the shojo manga series by Yuki Shiwasu, follows Utage Kinoshita, a high schooler who works as a part-time housekeeper to help pay for her obsession with her favorite idol, Tamon Fukuhara from the rising group F/ACE. One day, Utage gets the surprise of her life when she shows up to clean the house of none other than Tamon!
However, Tamon is nothing like his persona on stage, hence the title cleverly being Tamon’s B-Side. B-Side in music usually refers to songs on albums that aren’t as promoted and are usually less popular. The Tamon she meets while cleaning is timid and struggles with his confidence offstage. He’s completely different from what Utage thought he’d be like. Tamon views himself as a phony and doesn’t think he’s worthy of fans. Despite the Tamon she meets being different than the one she fell in love with, Utage still supports him wholeheartedly. She is determined to get him to see his own worth!

It’s such a fun concept! And honestly, it sounds like a fanfic come to life, where Utage is living her best y/n (your name) life. It’s a great nod to idol culture while also giving a refreshing twist by having the idol offstage be shy and introverted. Often in these scenarios, idols are put on a pedestal, and it’s the underdog fan who has to win them over! In this case, the idol is the one who needs reassuring. There’s so much to be uncovered in this series.
Like, why does Tamon feel the way he does about himself? How did he manage to debut when he can barely hold a conversation in person? How does he get into the idol mindset? There are so many questions this trailer sparked! But ironically, this also highlights fandom culture and how fans today want to learn more about idols beyond their music!
