Early Inspirations
Aleks Le has often spoken about his love of anime, which grew with him, with Dragon Ball and Naruto being a fundamental part of his childhood. Le has expressed his admiration for the passion and intensity of the English dub cast, which inspired him to eventually pursue voice acting. Le’s admiration grew into a fierce determination for the craft itself.
Le was a child immigrant whose family moved to the United States from Asia when he was around the age of ten years old. His unofficial tutors as a young child were English from cartoons and video games. The immersive entertainment sparked a deep passion for anime.
He credits Bryce Papenbrook as Eren in Attack on Titan and other dub actors for opening his eyes to the real craft behind the scenes, bringing life to the characters and storytelling. Le is the evolution of voice work through self-study. He repeatedly listened to and mimicked performances from both English and Japanese voice actors, carefully dissecting tone, cadence, and emotion. Le has spoken about his relentless resolve to the grind of grueling practices.
Previous Forays
Aleks did not always plan to voice-act. Aleks Le initially explored other career paths, including a manga artist. However, he eventually took a leap and took voice acting classes in Los Angeles. Le knows anime is not just reading lines, but feeling it, mixing in almost perfect technicality. It’s a dance between the technical and the emotional.
Like most dub actors, Aleks Le got his start through workshops and open auditions. Eventually, his raw intensity and emotional delivery landed him work with major anime and gaming studios, Bang Zoom! Entertainment and Studiopolis. Le credits much of his early development to mentorship from seasoned directors and actors, noting they helped him grow in both confidence and skill.
His official debut came in the video game world as Male Hoyoung in MapleStory in 2003. Le followed this debut in Heroes of Newerthin in 2010. Le’s voice work continued to transform, progressing his career towards voice work in anime.
Breakout in Anime
Le’s first performances came as Akashi in Kuroko’s Basketball, a confident, polite, but scary leader determined to win the game by any and all means, and Kazuya in Rent-A-Girlfriend, a comedic, awkward, and sincere character at the same time. However, Le first caught major viewers’ attention, reaching new heights, for his role as Zenitsu in Demon Slayer, a bubbly, compassionate, and seemingly unpowerful demon slayer whose hidden talents were an unexacting eruption of lightning and darkness. Zenitu’s volatility posed not just a challenge for Le but also a highlight of his tenacious skills.
Aleks Le continued his expansion across anime, landing roles that furthered his viewership and fanbase, while illustrating his ability, such as Luka Couffaine in Miraculous Ladybug, Cain and Liu Bei Xuande in Record of Ragnarok, Mikey in Tokyo Revengers, and Mash Burnedead in Mashle. Le’s movie performance came as Gamma 1 in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the serious android of the Red Ribbon Army devoted to justice. While these shows provided more versatility for Aleks, his real potential was just beginning to arise. Viewers had not seen the full arsenal of his skillset nor his aptitude for voice acting.
Aleks Le’s breakout moment and truest potential came as Sung Jin-woo, emerging as a raw, hypnotizing talent, forcing viewers to even question if a recasting for the voice-over had been done. Sung Jinwoo proved to be Le’s transformative performance, almost a metamorphic evolution of vocal control that was unheard of, immediately catapulting him into a name.
