Anime Pasadena Hosts Demon Slayer Panel

Demon Slayer fans gathered to hear all about the popular shonen anime during Anime Pasadena, which took place November 2 & 3, at the Pasadena Convention Center. Moderated by Michelle Maka, voice actors Zach Aguilar (Tanjiro Kamado), Aleks Le (Zenitsu Agatsuma), and Greg Chun (Muzan Kibutsuji) joined the panel to discuss what it’s like working on the anime and to answer fans’ burning questions. Zeno Robinson (Genya Shinazugawa) also made a surprise appearance.

Demon Slayer Cast Panel

The cast discussed the Demon Slayer moment that took the most effort to nail. Chun said that matching the Japanese voice actor’s energy as Kibutsuji was difficult. He  established a deeper voice for his character and had a tough time incorporating the more maniacal elements from the Japanese performance.

Le joked, “For me, when we were first establishing the characters, it was super tough. I’ve never walked into a booth and had an entire script be in capital letters.” Le also  commented that it took seven hours for Agatsuma’s first episode because they were so particular about the performance.

Fears and Fans

Michelle Maka asked the voice actors, “If you could create a demon based on your darkest fear, what would it look like?” Chun laughed and said, “Mine would be a demon that comes up and tells you that you have a test that you did not study for,” eliciting an uproar of laughter and groans from the audience.

Aguilar expressed his dislike of spiders and fear of a spider demon, referencing the Spider Family from Demon Slayer season 1. In contrast, Robinson expressed his fear of not necessarily death, but a “black void nonexistence.”

Fans had the opportunity to ask the voice actors silly and serious questions about the show. One fan asked what other anime characters the panel would voice if they had the opportunity. All of the voice actors agreed that normally the casting is spot on, and it’s hard to choose. Chun said he would take part in Fate Zero, the series that inspired him to go into anime dubbing. Aguilar had to think about his answer, to which Robinson joked, “It’s hard when you’re in all of them!”

“It’s not an anime, but I hope in the future at some point that I have a chance to be a part of Avatar the Last Airbender,” Aguilar said.

Demon Slayer Music Player

Another fan wondered what type of music the Demon Slayer characters would enjoy. Robinson said Shinazugawa would definitely be into heavy metal. “He is a sweet boy but he’s got a lot of issues, and heavy metal is a way to process that,” he said

Le said that Zentisu would definitely be into K-Pop. “I was always saying that Zenitsu would totally listen to one of those K-Pop girl groups. He wouldn’t even care about the music all that much, he would watch the [music videos] and collect the trading cards.”

The Demon Slayer cast wrapped up their session with Le’s famous “NEZUKOOOOOO” scream, eliciting a huge applause and uproar from the audience.
