Zenless Zone Zero, the newest action urban-fantasy RPG from miHoYo, is celebrating its one-year anniversary with the launch of Version 2.0, on June 6, 2025! The story deepens and the world expands! All with a brand-new location to explore and a multitude of new characters to meet. There will also be plenty of rewards and free giveaways for pre-registering, like a free S-Rank agent, their signature W-Engine, and enough upgrade materials to advance said agent to level 40. For now, here are the highlights from the Version 2.0 Special Program “Where the Clouds Embrace the Dawn.”
Waifei Peninsula is Waiting
On the borderlands of New Eridu, facing the distant Throne Quarter across the sea, on the cusp of the Lemnian Hollow, is the Waifei Peninsula. In the new main story chapter, “Where the Clouds Embrace the Dawn,” players will immerse themselves in the new city area, Failume Heights.
It’s famous for Porcelume production, a material processed from Hollow materials used in everything from military equipment to protective charms. Placed far from the bustling cities, Failume Heights features its own culture and landscapes wholly different from New Eridu. However, the Phaethon siblings won’t be here just for sightseeing. They will arrive at the Yunkui Summit to seek aid from the High Preceptor, whose combat abilities and mastery of mystic arts rival even the most experienced Void Hunters.
Meet Your Fellow Disciples
After helping the Mayor, during the events of the previous version, the Proxies are put in contact with Yixuan, the High Preceptor of Yunkui Summit. She has promised to train the Proxies and develop their newfound Ether-manipulating abilities. With the help of the other disciples, players will be seeing the world in a whole new light.
Yixuan is the newest recruitable S-Rank agent and marks the introduction of the Auric Ink element and Rupture specialty. In battle, Auric Ink damage accumulates to trigger the “Corruption” effect which causes enemies to suffer additional Ether damage. The Rupture specialty means a portion of the agent’s stats are converted into “Sheer Force”. A brand new offensive stat that ignores a percentage of the enemy’s defense. Yixuan fights with the grace and artistry of a master calligrapher. She can augment her attacks by consuming her resource gauges with skills that seamlessly flow from offense to defense. Yixuan, will be available to recruit during the Signal Search Event Phase 1, alongside a rerun of Astra Yao, and the newest A-Rank agent.
Pan Yinhu is an A-Rank Physical Defense agent. This doting panda bear Thiren has mastered the art of cooking as well as combat. His precise strikes pinpoint the enemy’s pressure points until he’s ready to unleash a flurry of devastating blows. He synergizes well with his Yunkui Summit allies, granting them “Sheer Force” for a time and applying a debuff to enemies. Pan will be available to recruit during the Signal Search Event in Phase 1.
Finally, there’s the beloved Senior Sister of Yunkui Summit, The Tiger, Thiren Ju Fufu. She’s an S-Rank Fire Stun agent who teams up with her artifact to build up “Might” and “Momentum.” With enough of each, her artifact will spew burning popcorn and Fufu can unleash a chaotic spinning attack. Additionally, her special Chain Attack grants a team-wide buff that increases Crit damage. Ju Fufu will be available to recruit during the Signal Search Event Phase 2 along with a rerun of Caesar.
Let’s Get Down to Business
It wouldn’t be a new update without version-exclusive events and gameplay. Here are some of the newest events coming to Version 2.0!
Invite friends to watch a movie at the refurbished Gravity Cinema in Lumina Square during the “Gravitational Attraction” event. Deepen your relationships by choosing favorable dialogue paths as you watch movies together. If you prefer to watch movies alone, there’s an option for that too, but be careful about stray thoughts distracting you. Pop relevant thought bubbles to stay engaged and increase your “Movie Points” to gain various rewards.
Get in the mech, Eous! In “Soul of Steel: Golden Bond,” Belabog Industries has uncovered a mech in the Hollows and needs help testing its modifications while keeping it from going berserk. Through Eous, players will dive into the Hollows piloting the mech and unlocking new combat skills. It’s not all fun-and-games as a strange Golden Bangboo appears and demands the return of the mech so it can turn the human world on its head.
The mysteries of Hollow Zero continue to deepen, as do the threats! A dangerous Miasma has been reported to be corrupting victims and Ethereals, so the Proxies and Yixuan must go to investigate, with help of a certain defense force squad. “Hollow Zero: Phantom Paths” updates the Hollow Zero gameplay experience with new agent-exclusive gear, new features for better skill expression, and additions to agents’ skills for more versatility.
Need a break from the Hollow exploring lifestyle? Explore the local marvels in “Failume Heights Sightseeing Guide.” Get to know the culture and sights of Waifei Peninsula. Complete the corresponding missions to earn Polychromes and other rewards. However, every city has its secrets, so stay alert.
Additional Features and Optimizations
- New outfits for Belle, Wise, and Yixuan.
- New S-Rank Bangboo, Belion.
- Navigation system upgrade: a New Eridu world map and minimap display for easy location and quest tracking.
- Hollow Investigation Techniques: the Proxies’ ocular implants allow them to see and manipulate the flow of Ether in the Hollows. New abilities like Disintegration, Revelation, and Insight will be made available.
- Suibian Temple Management: as the plot progresses, players will be given the chance to upgrade the facilities and raise their Management level to earn various rewards and outfits.
- Default key bindings will be optimized for less overlap and players will have the ability to customize said bindings.
- Proxies can access an advanced screening of Season 2’s main story after completing Season 1 – Chapter 2.
- A new file compression technology promises greater freedom and flexibility when optimizing storage space.
All this will be available when Version 2.0, “Where the Clouds Embrace the Dawn,” launches on June 6, 2025! Zenless Zone Zero is available for free on PS5, iOS, Windows, and PC. It will also launch on the Xbox series consoles the same day.
