The Pokemon Day livestream held on February 27th was filled to the brim with news, updates, and reveals sure to excite fans of the franchise with what is to come.
The majority of news and updates centered around mobile games and spin-offs.
Pokemon Concierge
The stream kicked off with news that Pokemon Concierge, the stop motion series on Netflix, would be receiving a new batch of episodes. The next installment will include more Pokemon not seen in the previous episodes and test footage of Shinx. Lastly, the release is slated for later this year, but no specific date has been given.
Pokemon TCG Pocket
Pokemon TCG Pocket will be receiving a new booster pack centered around Arceus that will drop February 28th as well.
Pokemon Sleep
Pokemon Sleep was announced to be hosting a new event. The event will be centered around Darkrai, the Pokemon of nightmares, and Cresselia, the Pokemon of dreams. The event is slated to start in late March.
Pokemon Masters EX
Pokemon Masters EX announced new scout pairs, with those being Sygna Suit May with Kyogre and Sygna Suit Brendan with Groudon.
Pokemon Unite
Pokemon Unite revealed that Suicune, Alolan Raichu, and Alcremie will be joining the game’s roster in the coming months.
Pokemon Champions
The biggest news for spin-offs came from the reveal of Pokemon Champions. Champions seems to be a return to the format of Pokemon Stadium, where trainers can use any Pokemon they have access to in battles with others. However, not much was revealed about the title, but it will be released on both Switch and mobile devices.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A
The last big reveal was the gameplay trailer for the upcoming title, Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The game will follow the player as they arrive in Lumiose City in the Kalos Region.
It’s here that they will pick a starter between Fire-type Tepig, Grass-type Chikorita, or Water-type Totodile. Then, the player will be called on to help with Lumiose City’s expansion– to be a city for both people and Pokemon.
The player will meet new characters, such as the CEO of Quasartico Inc. Jett, her secretary Vinnie, and new rival Urbain or Taunie, though who they encounter will depend on their chosen gender. AZ and his Floette are returning from 2013’s Pokemon X and Y as a supporting character and owner of Hotel Z, the player’s base of operations.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be changing how battles work, using a system more in line with real time combat rather than turn-based combat. Additionally, Mega Evolution is returning as a battle mechanic.
However, no specific release date was given for the game, it is expected to be coming out in late 2025.
