During the Pokémon Presents live stream today in celebration of Pokémon Day, a new game is coming to Nintendo Switch, IOS, and Android players: Pokémon Champions.
New Pokémon Champions Game Announced
Pokémon Champions will be a PvP trainer battle game in a head-to-head arena battle experience. The game will focus on battles from various moments across the Pokémon games universe, going back to Generation 1. The game will allow cross-platform playing. In the teaser trailer, it appears that players may also be able to compete in 2v2 battles.
The teaser trailer highlighted a battle between Dondonzo and Aegislash against Hisauian Samarott and Charizard, in which fans see Charizard Mega Evolve. As seen in previous games, Pokémon Champions battles will occur in the Pokémon Battle Arena, as seen in the trailer.
The game will also allow players to connect to their Pokémon Home cloud system, allowing them to “team up with Pokémon who joined you on your adventures in previous Pokémon games.” This allows players to personalize their experience and connect with some of their favorite Pokémon they’ve encountered.
Although the Pokémon Presents live stream announced multiple projects, fans seem most excited for Pokémon Champions. This is because Pokémon Champions is the first battle-focused spin-off game since 2006’s Pokémon Battle Revolution. Sadly, there is no official release date since the game is still in development.
Pokémon Presents Live Stream
During the Pokémon Presents live stream, Nintendo announced new episodes for Pokémon Concierge on Netflix and multiple expansions to pre-existing games, such as Pokémon TCG Pocket. Pokémon Champions was one of two new games announced alongside Pokémon Z-A, which is coming out this year. Today, Nintendo also premiered a new film entitled Dragonite and the Postman for Pokémon Day, which can be found on YouTube.
With all the latest Pokémon games, updates, and series, this Pokémon Day was one for the records. Until the official release of Pokémon Champions, fans of the franchise can play numerous other games such as Pokémon Go, Pokémon TCG Pocket, and the soon-to-come Pokémon Z-A.
