SAKAMOTO DAYS Episode 6 Review: Encouragement Moves Us Forward

We are our biggest critics in life. We know our flaws and negative thoughts can hold us back from realizing our true potential. Whether starting a new task or trying to get out of your comfort zone, our fears are what terrify us the most. And, as we find out in this episode of Sakamoto Days, sometimes all we need is a helping hand to encourage us to move forward. Here is the review of Sakamoto Days episode 6.

SAKAMOTO DAYS Episode 6 Recap

Sakamoto Days episode 6 starts off with Heisuke Mashimo (voiced by Xolo Mariduena), another assassin who is out to kill Sakamoto for the bounty. Shin and Lu are cleaning up the store from the recent assassin attempts and Shin talks about winning a local airsoft tournament to get more funds to fix up the store, with the prize money being 1 million yen. Heisuke walks in and is looking for Sakamoto. However, he only has a picture of when Sakamoto was skinny. Shin and Lu dissuade Heisuke from the store and give him free meat buns when he complains of not having eaten yet. Heisuke heads back towards his rooftop tent. A sudden windstorm destroys it. He complains about money issues but finds the same flyer about joining the airsoft tournament for the prize money.

The next day at the tournament, Heisuke begs to join Sakamoto’s team. This is due to realizing he can’t join as a single player. Shin and Sakamoto agree to have him join. Then, they find out he’s a very skilled sniper. Heisuke, Sakamoto, and Shin start to dominate the competition. However, a drunk Lu lets it slip that Sakamoto is the guy Heisuke is looking for. Suddenly, all bets are off as Heisuke switches from an airsoft gun to a real rifle, and takes a shot at Sakamoto.

Shin and Sakamoto are under fire. Sakamoto learns that Heisuke’s bullets are made to ricochet so you can’t determine the path. Heisuke has a flashback about him applying to be an assassin at the JAA. Although, he realizes that he’s only good at being a sniper and not much else. Heisuke gets fired from JAA and becomes poor. He is determined to prove himself to everyone by killing Sakamoto.

Shin, who heard Keisuke talk to himself over the comms, tells him that it doesn’t matter what other people think about him as long as he believes in his skills. Sakamoto pinpoints Heisuke’s location and takes his rifle out with a single pebble. Shin, Sakamoto, and Heisuke ended the tournament winning the prize money. Heisuke calls himself weak but Sakamoto calls him a remarkable sniper and that he’s nowhere close to being weak. Heisuke gets 50 yen from prize money and complains. Shin says they had to spend most of the money renovating the town from his bullets.

Overall Thoughts

I loved the introduction to Heisuke as a character. He almost reminds me of Okuyasu from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5; a goofball and a bit of an airheaded character who’s far more powerful than they think they are. I hope he becomes a regular character within the Sakamoto gang, as we have yet to see a sniper be introduced to the cast. I also enjoyed the dynamic Shin seemed to have with him as the episode progressed. I’d also like to see how Heisuke and Lu would interact, as they didn’t get much screen time with one another. All in all,  this episode is by far one of my favorites and I cannot wait for what the next episode has in store.
