Zenless Zone Zero is the latest game from miHoyo, and features fast-paced action RPG elements, with plenty of characters to befriend and collect. Version 1.4, is fast approaching, and it’s promising a host of new content, new characters and gameplay. Also, new features to explore and better optimizations. For now, lets discuss some highlights of the major changes players can expect in the latest version!
NEW STORIES AND CHARACTERS
Since launch, players have been introduced to six factions in New Eridu like the Cunning Hares, Belebog Heavy Industries, Victoria Housekeeping, the Criminal Investigations Team, the Sons of Calydon, and Section 6. In the new main story chapter, “A Storm of Falling Stars,” everyone will get a role to play as the story takes a massive leap forward. The secrets surrounding the Sacrifice and Perlman will finally be revealed in a climax of epic proportions!
In addition to the new story, new characters will be available for recruitment. This version will be introducing the S-rank, Frost Anomaly agent, Hoshimi Miyabi. Her expert sword skills and fast slashing techniques allow her to flash freeze her targets, increasing anomaly buildup and giving a boost to her damage. For a long-range approach to combat, the new S-rank Electric Attack agent, Asaba Harumasa, is the perfect pick. He expertly switches his weapon between blade-mode and bow-mode, while laying traps that fire their own electrically charged shots. Players will also get the chance to learn more about Harumasa’s past in his special agent story and combat showcase, “Windchaser Harumasa.”
Both of Miyabi’s and Harumasa’s exclusive channel searches will be available day one of the update. There are also two new signature W-Engines and Bangboo to collect.
GAMEPLAY UPDATES AND EVENTS
“Hollow Zero, Shadows Lost”: Ray from Scott Outpost has gone missing in Hollow Zero, along with her investigation team. Proxies will dive into a new area, the Lost Void, in search of her. Agents that accompany the player will get all-new combat abilities based on the gear the player chooses. Develop new strategies and show off your prowess in this combat-centered gameplay mode.
“Deadly Assault”: The HIA have teamed up with soldiers from Scott Outpost to create an all-new high-risk enemy combat training system. Proxies will face three powerful enemies, with pre-set environmental and battle conditions in place. In addition, each enemy must be challenged with different Agents and Bangboo so strategy is key. Tactics that provide “buffs” and special effects will aid in team selection. Select the best team for the fight and max out those rankings.
“Into That Pale Wasteland”: A new companion Hollow has appeared called Melinoe. The intense corruption has made suppressing the Hollow difficult, so Section 6 is sent to investigate. Proxies will assist in navigating a safe route through the treacherous and unpredictable Hollow. It will be the first time players will be able to control Eous directly. Also, fight new adversaries, unlock combat perks and collect credits to redeem for upgrade materials, Polychromes, and other in game perks. The secrets of the Melinoe Hollow are yours to uncover!
“Bangboo Vs Ethereal”: A new area will be made available called the Reverb Arena. There, Proxies will assist with Bangboo assessment tests. This new tower-defense-like game mode will have Proxies deploying Bangboo onto the map to prevent waves of Ethereals from reaching the base. Level up your units, fulfill the assessment levels, and help the Bangboo pass their test.
NEW FEATURES AND OPTIMIZATIONS
- A new Proxy Journey screen has been added. This will help players keep track of their progress as well as check unlock conditions for certain features and stories. Rewards can be claimed upon completion.
- Unlock requirements have been lowered across all features to make the leveling-up process smoother. This includes the Inter-knot rank-up requirements, required levels for Main Story and Agent Story missions, and prerequisites for ongoing events.
- Starting in Ver 1.4, during combat, Decibel accumulation will no longer be shared by the squad. Instead, each character will generate their own pool of Decibels, which means each Ultimate skill will also be individualized. This will shake up the combat and give players more freedom when fighting Ethereals.
- A “Special Training Plan” system will allow players to better track their Agent’s upgrade requirements. The UI has been optimized for quick navigation and gives a better overview of what upgrades should be prioritized.
- The much-anticipated controllable Agent feature has arrived. Players will be able to freely roam the in-game locations as any one of their recruited Agents. Additionally, a new quality time option will allow Proxies to invite Agents to explore with them and unlock special interactions.
- In the near future, the Zenless Zone Zero official merch pop-up tour will begin, so keep an eye out for a ZZZ Hub near you. Also, the original game soundtrack album, “Hyper Commision,” is coming soon.

Finally, a pre-registration event for Version 1.4 is happening now. Pre-register now to get 160 free Polychromes. Stay tuned, as the engagement level rises, unlocking even more in-game rewards. By inviting friends to pre-register, players can receive lucky draw chances for prizes like a PS5, as well as an official Nicole figure, Sixth Street Series building block sets, and other great prizes.
Lastly, as one final gift, S-rank agent Asaba Harumasa will be available to recruit for free when the update launches. Simply log-in and complete the “Special Visitor” event items to receive Harumasa and materials to upgrade him to level 40.
