Following the first season’s success, The Apothecary Diaries season 2 is coming soon. The second season is beginning its airing on January 10, 2025 with a two-cour broadcast, starting the new year off on a high note.
Announcement of "The Apothecary Diaries" Season 2
Season 1 of The Apothecary Diaries aired from October 22, 2023 through March 24, 2024. In honor of the first anniversary, TOHO Animation held a live stream on their official YouTube account where they announced the release date of season 2 with a teaser trailer.
Along with the announcement, The Apothecary Diaries also released a new key visual of the main characters Maomao and Jinshi.
Earlier in March, a few days after the conclusion of the first season, TOHO Animation announced that the second season was in the works. They tease the 2025 release date.
Taking over the direction this season will be Akinori Fudesaka, who was the assistant director of the previous season. Norihiro Naganuma will be in charge of the composition. Naganuma previously directed the first season of The Apothecary Diaries. TOHO Animation and OLM will be producing The Apothecary Diaries once again.
About the Series
The Apothecary Diaries is a light novel series released in 2011 written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. Before Shufunotomo published the series in a novel format, the series was serialized on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, which is a publishing website for user-generated novels, with the anime coming over a decade after its initial release.
The historical romance series is set in the Tang Dynasty of Imperial China following Maomao, a girl who learned apothecary from her father. After she is kidnapped and sold off to the Imperial Palace as a servant, she soon ends up using her medical knowledge to solve the medical mysteries of the royal court, moving up within the Imperial Palace.
