Series Synopsis

In the near future, VR gaming has taken the world by storm, but that means there’s lots of trash games out there. Rokuro Hizutome gets a kick out of conquering those games, bugs and all. After completing his most recent trash game, he decides to try the god-tier game Shangri-la Frontier (SLF). He creates a character, names it Sunraku, and jumps right into the game.

"Shangri-la Frontier" Season 1, Part 2 Recap

When last we left our heroes, Sunraku, Pencilgon, and Oikatzo have challenged one of the 7 Colossi, Wethermon the Tomb Guard. The fight is a feast for the eyes and will have any gamer on the edge of their seats. Fans of souls-like and boss rush games will instantly feel the tension of facing Wethermon’s overwhelming strength. Attacks nigh impossible to dodge, the ability to summon a second boss enemy, and skills tailored for AOE (area of effect), crowd control, and one-hit-kills make Wethermon harder than any final boss.

MMO (massively multiplayer online) enthusiasts will enjoy the trio’s strategies in taking down the Colossus. Revival items, juggling aggro, and equipment swaps are all necessary to adapt and conquer an ever-changing battlefield. Sunraku and Oikatzo take on the roles of tank/DPS while Pencilgon offers support with her items.

Through their combined efforts and a lot of skill, they finally defeat Wethermon the Tomb Guard. As he crumbles to his eternal sleep, Setsuna appears to congratulate the party and tells them to seek out Bahamut if they want to learn the truth of the world. Then, a system-wide announcement declares that Wethermon has been defeated and the “World Story” of SLF has progressed.

The Series Continues to Captivate Audiences

Meanwhile, in the real world, the developers of Shangri-la Frontier, Utopia Inc., are in a state. The executive producer and the founder/lead programmer argue about the game’s balance and story progression, while the PR director tries to calm them down. According to the founder, Wethermon was supposed to be the second Colossi to be defeated. The consequences of this are yet to be seen.

Back in the game, Sunraku, Oikatzo, and Pencilgon officially found a new clan together, Wolfgang, dedicated to taking down the Colossi. Then, Sunraku pursues his own side quest. One of the items he received for beating Wethermon is a bracelet that gives him access to Inventoria, a pocket storage space filled with sci-fi relics and mechs. To use the mechs, however, he needs to repair a non-standard ether reactor, which can only be done by an “Ancient Craftsman.” So Sunraku decides to help Beelach become one. Naturally it involves a fetch quest, so off into the unknown he goes. Along the way, he farms more rare materials and meets Aramis, the Cait Sith swordsman, who joins him on his quest.
