“BARTENDER Glass of God” Episode 5 Dives Deep Into Regrets

While it’s not exactly your standard “beach trip” type of episode, the newest episode of BARTENDER Glass of God has us following our cast to their trip to a distillery brimming with history. With a new face joining the group, a tale of past love, and a few hijinks to be had, Episode 5 of BARTENDER Glass of God is a light hearted yet somber story, much like an aged whiskey. Here’s the fifth episode review of BARTENDER Glass of God.

Recap

Our main cast of characters take a trip out to Yamazaki Distillery; a well known historic site for making whiskey. They are also joined by a friend of Sasuka’s named Kelvin Chen. He is an introverted and quiet man who is also working alongside Mr. Perfect. The crew learns the process of making whiskey and how crucial every step is to making it perfect; from the water right down to the aging process. We also find out that Kelvin had been in the area in his youth with his father, a businessman who was determined to have Kelvin follow in his footsteps. While the pair were in town, Kelvin became fast friends with the daughter Chitose who works at the inn with her mother.

Chitose and Kelvin were similar. Both of their parents had pre-determined the life of their children to follow in their footsteps. Kelvin had promised Chitose that they would go to the festival in town, however he backed out at the last minute and, unfortunately, was not able to see Chitose before he left. The anime gave us some surprising depth to Kelvin and relatability, showing us how holding onto your regrets can stunt your growth both as a person and in your passions. The anime also ends with a laughable conclusion to alleviate the sadness; Kyoko and Yuri are so busy with their bar crawl across Kyoto that they miss the train back home.

Episode 5 Review

Episode 5 of BARTENDER Glass of God tackled a very relatable subject matter and managed to transform it into this melancholy tale of regret. Some parents are so eager to have their child take over their business or follow the career path they set for them, without so much as asking or caring about what their child actually wants. And sometimes in our lives, we look back on our regrets and wish we could go back and change them. However if we keep hold of our emotions and regrets, we won’t be able to push forward and let go. I hope Kelvin doesn’t become a one off character and that we see more of him. Hopefully he can meet up with Chitose again and they can reconcile. I would love for the series to continue to have episodes like these. I also hope that more of our main characters can have their backstories expanded on. For example, what secrets does Sasuka still have? What was the hotel like in its prime?
