The stakes are high in the latest episode of BARTENDER Glass of God. With new characters, a battle between bartenders, and a bittersweet realization, BARTENDER Glass of God episode 3 dives into a riveting story that only continues to pique my curiosity. Here’s the third episode review of BARTENDER Glass of God.
"BARTENDER Glass of God" Episode 3
Sasuka has yet to accept the offer of working in the hotel, much to the dismay of our main characters. It turns out, the chairman is trying to compete with a neighboring hotel and one of its top bartenders who is dubbed as “Mr. Perfect.” As Sasuka and Mr. Perfect battle off in a bartender drink off, we see that surprisingly, our main character loses. While Sasuka manages to observe and rationalize Miwa and makes a Manhattan that caters to her tastes and personality, his actual drink making skills are lackluster compared to a professional. It was honestly surprising to watch. I’m so used to the main character being able to accomplish feats that others cannot. So to see our main character, the character who everyone sees as perfect fail, was surprisingly relatable.
The anime also introduces Kawakami Kyoko; a relatable character who’s down on her luck, hopping from bartending job to bartending job to try and make something of herself but ending up just short of her dreams. She’s trying to perfect her skills. However, no matter how hard she tries, she can’t accomplish stirring her drinks correctly. I believe that she’ll become a fan favorite and (fingers crossed) that she’ll end up encountering our main cast of characters again.
Raising the Stakes
BARTENDER Glass of God Episode 3 is slowly raising the stakes. In turn, it is reminding us of something that not too many people like to admit. We are allowed to fail and can experience the effects of failure. We can read all of the books and take in as much knowledge as we can about something we’re passionate about. But sooner or later, we all hit a point of rock bottom. We can sulk in our feelings. But, if we don’t take the criticism and hone our skills, we can end up running away from something we love doing.
I hope the anime ends up introducing more relatable characters and also puts Sasuka in more situations like this. Situations where he understands that, while he’s mastered the art of observing and catering to customers’ needs and wants, he needs to understand that his drinks should still follow the basic guidelines and should still be made correctly, rather than what he thinks would be best. Maybe, within the next few episodes, we can run into characters that Sasuka can encounter to show that mentality. He is welcome to observe and cater to the needs of clients, while also providing correct beverages that can soothe the client and make for an all around unforgettable bar experience.
BARTENDER Glass of God is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
