The revved-up series Chainsaw Man finally gets a sequel with a well anticipated movie titled, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.
What is Chainsaw Man?
Chainsaw Man takes place in an alternate-reality Tokyo, where devils present the largest threat to human society; gaining strength from the fear of humans, getting stronger the more people that are threatened by them. Denji is a poor boy born into this world, left by his late father to scrape at his debt to the Yakuza. After forming a contract with Pochita (the chainsaw devil), man and his not-so-safe best friend eventually get put into a sticky situation and end up working under the mysteriously beautiful Makima as Public Safety Devil Hunters. Along with his new companions Aki and Power, Denji has to find his way in a world that previously threw him out, and live a new life as the man-devil hybrid Chainsaw Man. What could Denji possibly encounter trying to reach his goal of… physical love?
With MAPPA animating the gut-wrenching, heart-ripping, and somewhat suggestive manga with a cult following by Tatsuki Fujimoto, it’s hard not to relate to some of the journeys in this series. Chainsaw Man is a pristinely animated show with great fights, characters, and animation with inspiration from South Park, Pulp Fiction (1994), and the Evil Dead franchise. This series took anime fans by storm after its long awaited anime and has since become one of the most competitive anime to be considered in the modern most popular polls. Especially with the manga closing off part one, fans are more eager than ever to hear about it being animated.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc
With an excited crowd and more than fitting music, the Jumpfesta 2023 Main Stage dropped the first teaser to one of their next projects: Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. Following some key visuals, smaller peeks, and animated manga panels, fans got a view into the story of the next section of Chainsaw Man, being follow-up with a movie similar to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train (2020). Following almost exactly where the end credits of episode 12 left off, the movie aims to take the next arc and use its ideal pacing in a cinematic format.
Along with the video shown, MAPPA also released a teaser image, with the next character front and center over a field of flowers, taking from the style of the Chainsaw Man physical manga covers:
This next arc follows a new, mysterious, purple-haired girl in a school uniform by the name of Reze, and her adventures with Denji. Although we got foreshadowing of her appearance at the end of season one, there was no true definition of who she was in the anime until now. With screenshots of her and Denji holding hands, trading a flower, and skinny dipping in a pool together, there’s no doubt that fans are getting the outlandishly grounded story of Denji once again. Without saying too much, many fans have already said this arc is perfect for a movie, and to see that come to fruition is a dream come true for many long-time followers of Fujimoto.
Though followers are excited to get a new teaser, and are more than happy to see more from this series, there is still no release date, window, or additional details at the time of the teaser’s release.
