For the last few weeks, Jujutsu Kaisen animators for season two have been transparent about the poor production treatment from Studio MAPPA. Studio MAPPA, most known for hit anime, such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Attack on Titan, has been under fire for the poor working conditions of their production team for years now.
Jujutsu Kaisen Animators Complain about Working Conditions
Animators of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 expressed how overworked they are due to the studio giving them little to no time to produce such high-budget episodes. This recently came to a head when animators expressed their exhaustion and frustrations on the social media platform āXā (previously Twitter).
Jujutsu Kaisen animators began sharing their experiences after Studio MAPPA refused to allow them to delay any episodes after they requested more time to produce episodes. MAPPAās issues of unrealistic deadlines have been a growing issue.
One of the seasonās animators, HoneHone, made a public statement on the platform āXā stating that the cycle of unrealistic expectations began when they were only allotted four months to produce the acclaimed film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, an extremely high-budget film for Studio MAPPA.Ā
Other animators also took to the platform to share their experiences with Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. The animator Barikios urged the animation team to ādisband,ā while they expressed they were deflated, going as far as to say that ānothing is fun anymore.ā The animator Amphibi posted āItās overā and claimed they arenāt going back to working on the season in the replies. These posts sparked outrage from many fans, showing the animators full support as they urged MAPPA to change their working conditions.Ā
Amidst this all, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 is not canceled. However, fans may potentially expect that animatorsā exhaustion could begin impacting the next episode, episode 18, and the rest of the season unless changes are made to production.
New episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 are released every Thursday on Crunchyroll.
