We spoke with voice actor Dameon Clarke about his career in voice acting. Dameon is known for voicing Cell in Dragon Ball Z, Handsome Jack in the Borderlands series, and Scar in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Dameon Clarke has been in the voice acting game for a long time. In the last few years, anime has risen in popularity and has become more mainstream.
“I think it’s amazing. You know? Again, I get to meet more people that come to these conventions because I’ve spent so much of my life doing it. So, it’s special to me that I get to meet like-minded people.”
Dragon Ball Z
Dragon Ball Z first aired in 1989 in Japan and 2001 in the United States. The series, written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama, follows Goku and his friends, who call themselves the Z Warriors. Together, they work to defend planet Earth from evil forces from beyond the stars.
Dameon Clarke is the voice of Cell, who plays a huge role in the Dragon Ball Z series as one of the main villains. Cell is a man-made creation who was made to hold all of the power of Earth’s greatest fighters combined. The “Cell Games” arc in Dragon Ball Z alone is 29 episodes long.
“When I auditioned for the character, it was just the first version of him…and I thought okay, that’s it. Right? That’s the character. But nobody told me it was like two other characters to it. And I had no manga experience…So I kind of had to figure out going along on this journey with Cell, what to do with this character moving forward.”
Dameon Clarke is scheduled to be a special guest at this year’s Anime Pasadena event. He said, “I’ve always wanted to do this show…Just in general, I really enjoy conventions. It’s the only time that we get to talk to people that are interested in what we do.”
