We spoke with voice actor David Vincent about his career in voice acting. David is known for voicing Kento Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen, Oda Sakunosuke and Ouchi Fukuchi in Bungo Stray Dogs, Grimmjow in Bleach, and more.
Actor Spotlight: David Vincent
David Vincent began his voice acting career after doing theater work.
“I was doing a show in Times Square at a little theater called Don’t Tell Mama, and I was doing a bunch of voices. I was making fun of T.V. commercials. It was a comedy show, and there was a voiceover agent in the audience…and she came up to me after my show and was like, ‘Do you have an agent?’ And I was like, ‘No!’ [She said] ‘Here’s my card. You need to call me.’ And so that’s how I first got introduced into the world of voiceover.”
David has voiced two characters in Bungo Stray Dogs. In seasons four and five, he played Fukuchi who was a very important player in the Decay of Angels/Meursault arc. He said, “The storytelling with that character in particular and with Bungo Stray Dogs, I was kind of blown away to be honest with you. Just with everything!”
Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen is a hit 2018 Shonen Jump series by Gege Akutami. The first season of the anime was released in 2020. The second season began airing on July 6th and is currently updating each Thursday on Crunchyroll. Jujutsu Kaisen follows a group of people who have a special, supernatural power known as “cursed energy.” These sorcerers protect the people of Japan from “cursed spirits” that are manifestations of human fear and negative emotions.
David Vincent voices Kento Nanami, a jujutsu sorcerer who despises going to work. He is a grade 1 sorcerer and finds himself becoming a mentor for Yuji Itadori. In season two of Jujutsu Kaisen, fans get a look into the teenage years of Gojo and Geto, along with Nanami.
“I think he’s a huge character…Obviously, he isn’t as featured as Gojo and things like that, but just that character in particular. There’s just so much going on with Nanami, and getting to go in and explore, you know, the past with Nanami and his history, I thought was really cool.”
David Vincent is scheduled to be a special guest at this year’s Anime Pasadena event. He is the most excited for “meeting the fans! That, to me, is icing on the cake. That’s the best part, honestly, about this career.”
Anime Pasadena is happening at the Pasadena Convention Center on November 4th and 5th. Tickets are on sale now!
