Returning to the volleyball court, Haikyuu!! announces the official release date and scores a first trailer for the first Haikyuu!! film: Haikyuu!! The Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump. The movie will be released on February 16, 2024 Japanese theaters.

Haikyuu!! The Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump is the first ever Haikyuu!! film, but there are high hopes for the movie. Last August, Haikyuu!! announced they were making the two-part film. As of right now, the first film only has a Japanese release date, with no release date set for America. There are no details about the second film’s writing or release date yet.
The film focuses on one of the many games in the Tokyo Nationals Arc. The anime’s main team, Karasuno, will be playing fan favorite team, Nekoma, in the infamous “Battle of the Garbage Dump” volleyball game.

To include fans in this film, 10,000 fans cheers were filmed to be included in the movie. The fans were recorded at the Haikyuu!! Festa was held on September 24 at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza in Tokyo.
Similar to previous Haikyuu!! seasons, Toho Animation will continue to animate. Susumu Mitsunaka, who directed seasons 1-3, will return as director and screenwriter with Takahiro Chiba returning as chief animation director. The voice actors will also be reprising their roles for this film.
Mitsunaka has high hopes for this film taking to social media to say “I’m hoping to bring something unique that can only be done in a movie format. All the staff members are very enthusiastic about their work so I have great confidence in them. Thank you for your support.”
The Haikyuu!! manga, by Haruichi Furadate, ran from 2012 to 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump. All chapters are available in English on the Shonen Jump app. Fans can also watch the previous four seasons of Haikyuu!! on Crunchyroll.
With months to go before we watch Karasuno and Nekoma face off on the volleyball court, we can only wait patiently to see which team comes out victorious.
