The Demon Hunter with white hair, dual pistols, and a craving for blood is making his way into anime in Devil May Cry, coming soon to Netflix!
About Devil May Cry
The Devil May Cry series is an action-adventure video game franchise developed and published by Capcom, from the mind of Hideki Kamiya. Raising from a failed take on a failed version of Resident Evil 4 (2005), the idea of making a darker world with a focus on more action arose. So began the quest to create a chain-attack combat game. This demon-eradicating game would eventually become a smash hit, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
In the games, players follow Dante, a demon hunter aiming to protect earth from invasions of a multitude of demons. The super stylized combat system very quickly became an addictive hit, forcing players to manage consumption of items and damage output while making sure to keep their combo going. With such a cocky protagonist as Dante is, this world felt natural and engaging.
Ranking high, the series would eventually expand to include about 8 other mainline games, with expansive lore and characters to accompany the infected world. This devilish game quickly became a classic, with an expansive storyline that kept players coming back.
Devil May Cry: DROP 01
The anime announcement itself was short and sweet, showing just a little bit of style and action reminiscent of the games. Dante’s design seems more fitting for an anime, but is still closer to his outfit in the first release: Devil May Cry (2001). His slick hairstyle along with a brighter red jacket really make the action sequences pop.
The series seems to be in good hands, as the few frames of backflips and gunplay already look amazing. Being made by Studio Mir, the people behind The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, and Dota: Dragon’s Blood, there is no doubt that the crude humor the series is known for will be complemented by great fight sequences.
Created by Adi Shankar, the producer behind the Castlevania anime, the style of the anime already looks and feels like the games. With experience from darker anime with demonic enemies already, Adi’s hands seem to be treating the anime well.
Where to Find the Series
